    Slow-Day-Random-Thought: Too many ARs?

Soliciting thoughts/advice about this, especially considering I have one more transfer left before the new year...

I have 5 AR style carbines. The AR10 and one AR15 have never been fired due to difficulty in finding appropriate ranges and scarcity of ammo. Even when I did drive 2 hours recently to shoot long enough distances, I only brought two of the AR15s and felt odd switching between them. It would be weird to lug 4 ARs and lay them all out to shoot I think.

With the unfortunate/fraudulent election results and possibility of sanctions on evil black rifles I’m further rethinking the “need” for keeping more than 1 or 2. At the same time I’m hesitant to sell, a bird in the hand and all that.

I can’t be the only Calgunner going through this thought process. What are the rest of you thinking about this? How many rifles can one person living in SoCal realistically shoot and still feel proficient/familiar with each?

    FN15 Military Collector M16 Rifle - Featureless (5.56/.223) ~ 200 rounds

    BCM RECCE-16 MCMR Carbine - Featureless (5.56/.223) ~ 100 rounds

Wilson Combat Protector Carbine 16" - Featureless (5.56/.233) BNIB

    Sig Sauer SIG716I 16" Carbine - Featureless (7.62/.308) BNIB

    Sig Sauer MPX Competiton 16" Carbine - Featureless (9mm) ~ 200 rounds

All of the above were acquired this calendar year (panic buying much?). Is my current low round count typical? I see that the majority of ARs posted for sale are BNIB or have similar low round counts.

Hold on to them till ammo becomes available and cheap. Then go to the range and shoot one till it gets too hot, then switch guns, shoot till it's too hot, and so on and so on.

Don't sell guns unless you really don't like that gun, you are putting the funds directly into a better gun, or you can't afford food and rent.

Beats me. I have 5, and wouldn't mind more. Just not in a position to GET more at the moment.

Having Multiple rifles is not unusual. Many folks have several.

Now, do you have to take them all out and put mileage on all? No, i would not. Once they are tested and zeroed, they can stay in the safe unless if you decide to (for whatever reason) shoot one with features not mounted/available on other ones.

honestly I would sell the BCM, keeping any accessories, assuming that I could turn a decent profit on it... but then again I haven't shot any of my ARs in years

I am looking to buy/build a few more. FYI I may or may not have more than 5 already. Planning a fishing trip on a friends boat soon.

ARs hold a special place in my heart - I still remember those ads in Shotgun News from when I was under 18, and vowing I would get one as soon as I was legally able. It took me a few years beyond the age of majority to come back around (finances, other priorities, etc.), but the first time I DROSed a lower, my heart skipped a beat. I don't get the same thrill as that first time, but I did chase it for quite a bit and ended up with more AR builds that I had anticipated.

I appreciate them for the historical role they've played, so beyond the standard carbine and pistol builds, I've branched out to replica builds like Vietnam-era styled M16A1 clone (with the triangular handguards, carry handle + slabside receiver, three-prong flash suppressor, etc., an M4Gery with Knights' furniture, etc. I've been wanting to add a Mk12/SPR build too but that has eluded me so far.

I don't keep these solely for shooting anymore, and for better or for worse, I consider myself more of a collector nowadays, since the guns I shoot when I can mange to get out to a long distance outdoor range is either the 308 or the 45-70 lever action.

Gavin Newsom is a lying, cheating slickster and will be is the worst mistake California has ever made if he gets now that he has been elected Governor. Hollywood movie producers look to him and his oleaginous persona as a model for the corrupt "bad guy" politician character. This guy is so greasy, he could lubricate an entire arsenal of AR-15s just by breathing on them.

And the MPX only sorta counts as an AR.

I've down sized down to one rifle and a few hand guns. In 20/20 hindsight, even though deemed necessary at the time, I regret it.

I've always been a pair and a spare plus one guy. Think of future needs and possible unrest. A few "extra" shoulder arms might be handy.

I have about the same when it comes to ar15’s but they are all different

                            1. varmint setup
                            2. Home defense
                            3. 3 guns style Setup
                            4. Ar pistol
                            5. 9mm ar for shiets n giggles

Now my AK’s are a little different but i made my AR’s more of a purpose rifle then to have just another AR.

This is helpful - I appreciate it.

As far as the MPX...it’s practically useless but if I could only shoot one of my firearms for the rest of my life this would be it! It’s a pleasure to shoot and anyone who has shot it always has the same “holy-chit!” look on their face.
