If pulled over, do you have to tell?

Hey guys, I'm new here, so sorry if this question has already been asked in the past.

Anyways, what I want to know is this: if you are pulled over in Cali - do you have to tell the LEO that you have a gun in the trunk?

    Thanks much.

Ok, thanks guys. Makes me feel a lot 'safer' if you know what I mean.

F no. Don't even bring it up. Bring nothing up. Whatever is in your car is for you alone.

I am not saying that I have been pulled over a lot but if it's just a traffic stop the cop won't ask if you have any weapons but if the cop asks you to exit the vehicle then you will get asked if you have any weapons.

I don't know if you'd have to answer that.

These days, if they are going to give you a ticket, you won't be able to TALK your way out of it..... they are out in full force cuz the state is broke....

Don't volunteer it, but, as for me, if I am asked, I will not lie; I do not carry in an illegal manner, and have nothing to lie about.

NOT TELLING is NOT lying.... remember that...

NOT answering in a language that the cop can understand is NOT illegal neither...

Now, if you DO admit that you have a firearm, now they have the right to "inspect" it... and now you just opened up a huge can of worms for them to get into your pants....

I guess you can choose not to talk... But that's part of the Miranda Rights and would apply if being arrested as to not incriminate yourself. I do agree though, don't say anything, if they aren't detaining or arresting you for something, ask if you're free to go with a ticket or whatever.

Don't be rude, just be matter of fact, if he wants to give you a ticket he will. If he wants to search your car, he can shove it. This isn't about people being legal or not, it's about protecting our rights and not being stepped on.

Very true, you don't even want it to get to this point. Be cool, don't give them an inch to use probable cause to search you.

I have always figured that, if I am pulled over, and if the officer finds some excuse to do a search, and finds a gun in the car, that I carry enough target shooting paraphernalia at any given time that the officer would be making himself look like a royal putz to hassle me further.

No, you have no reason or requirement to say anything to them. You can just say, can I please have my ticket and be on my way? Keep saying that, say you are busy, just say can I have my ticket and be on my way.

So if a LEO pulls you over for a traffic stop, and asks you " For my safety, do you have any guns, knives or any type of weapons in the car " most of you
rather not answer his question and ignore the fact he asked? By not answering his question, dont you think it will raise some type of suspicion? If your AR
is legal and you were on your way home from the range, what's the big deal?
