You can get a Gen 2 upper for $599 and a 516 lower for $145
They will be in stock soon
That said, $1600 is not terrible for a complete one especially if it is 14.5" w/pinned and welded muzzle device already. No waiting and no building.
But if you are counting dollars, you could build your own cheaper and with the trigger group and stock you want, featureless or mag locked with your preferred systems.Last edited by SkyHawk; 11-24-2020, 8:25 PM. -

Since April 2020, none of the SIG 516 posted for sale in the WTS long guns subforum for more than $1200 have sold.
They appear to get bumped, until the seller withdraws the sale, because no one is willing to pay the $1300+ asking prices.
The last SIG 516 (set up as a featureless) that was sold, in the WTS long guns subforum, went for $1200 in May 2020.sigpic

Exactly. An "out of stock" price is meaningless. Especially if you want to make sure you have it in hand before any slow-witted septuagenarian tries to ban them.
Here's just the upper that they SAY will ship in 5-8 weeks for $569:
Then again, that might be in Optics Planet weeks...
Wonder if you can just slap that on an AR lower? If so, that would be a cheap way to get one.Comment

Midwest gun works (the links I posted) have a huge banner up on the home page saying these are the prices, and the stock is coming soon so get on the notification list now. I would not have posted it otherwise. I may be a lot of things, but a bad shopper is not one of them

I have 3, two in rifle format and 1 in pistol. They are heavy for a 5.56, but most piston rifles are, except for the sig mcx. You won't regret getting one. It's a joy to shoot as most guns are.
I bought two extra complete uppers (14.5" barrel) last time Sig had them for sale, $399. Just need to get them pin and welded.Comment

Well, there's the MCX with switchable gas.Comment
