Scope recommendations

I loved my VX3 when I had it. They are great scopes and lightweight. I. Kinda leaning towards Leupold but then again I'd want to see what others think

Yeah, there's something about their scopes for hunting. I used to have a Vari-X 2, a step below the 3. One night I heard a commotion outside, couldn't see squat, took my rifle outside and lo and behold I could see a cat rambling around. Not quite night vision but I could see well enough to shoot with the small amount of moonlight available.

No, I didn't blast the cat with my Model 70.

Like others have said, Leupold VX3i 3x9x40. I have been hunting and using scopes for 30 years. I have looked through em all and used about 5 different manufactures and for the price, light weight, eye relief, ruggedness, optical clarity and warranty , Leupold is one of the best. I also do not need clunky high knob turrets for hunting ,I like simple uncluttered duplex reticle with my rifle sighted at MPBR. 3x9x40 is all you need for elk at all ethical ranges that standard calibers shoot at.

The Vortex Razor HD has better glass than the VX3/VX3i. I have specimens of them all. I have my Vortex mounted on a $4k custom Weatherby because of the combination of light weight and excellent glass. Probably lighter than the others mentioned.

I would hope so. I'd be pissed if my $2000 Razor didn't have better glass than a $600 Leupold.

Look at Zeiss Conquest V4 scopes. Amazing scopes. Red Hawk Rifles have them on sale!

The Vortex Razor HD LH scope is designed as a lightweight hunting scope and is closer to $1k, but still has the Razor quality glass.

I would recommend the Athlon Cronus btr. Camera land has been running a special for $1299 for the scope which is a heck of a deal for that scope.

Sorry just saw this was for a hunting rifle. Prob too bulky for that use

I don't get all the generic scope recommendations here. OP will be getting an especially lightweight (carbon/titanium) hunting rifle. Why would one not select the best quality LIGHTWEIGHT hunting scope? The Vortex is of high quality and fits within OP's budget and is very well suited for OP's stated use case.

Glass is one of the last things you should worry about in a scope.

Unless he is going to be twisting turrets, then the vortex will be a liability.

It's a lightweight hunting specific design, hence the LH designation in the product name. It doesn't have target turrets - it has low profile turrets.

I'm sure somebody will get all upset and tell me how wrong I am but I happen to like the Leupold VX3 line - good low light performance for the price & simplicity, since I would never dial anything in the field I don't need all the super tactical turrets that add additional costs

I have a Leupold VX-3i 3.5-10x40 CDS-ZL on a Winchester Model 70 EW in .30-06 and have no complaints.

I also don't plan on doing anything "long range" and this was my first hunting rifle. Even though it didn't cost an arm and a leg, I still think it's a great scope the does the rifle justice.
