    AR trouble shooting

Ok, this happens on my .308 AR rifle. On first charge it wants to slam round into the top of the chamber which dents case and locks up the bolt carrier. It only does this charging, second shot etc is fine. Ideas? If I manually stop the carrier and let round slide in then it's fine.

Some initial information that might help people help you...

Who made the barrel? Who made the upper receiver? Who made the bolt? Who assembled everything? Who made the magazine? Do you have any other brands of magazines you can try?

^^^ All that is needed but I would think it's some kind of mag issue.

        Agree.
Try down loading the mag a couple of rounds. 18 in a 20, etc.

PSA upper, 10 round Pmag. I have some other mags but can't use them hunting so I'll try that just frustrating it jams first round every time. My other ARs like Pmags.

Who makes your lower? PSA has some known compatibility issues. What gen is your upper?

Does it only do this when you pull back and release the charging handle, or also when you have the bolt locked back, insert mag, and hit the bolt release?
              my Benitez goes to 11

                This ^^^.

If the round goes in when you release the bolt, then rethink the way you use the charging handle.

load one less round - if you can't try a different mag just start by loading one less round in the magazine as with the staggered feed of the magazine (I am assuming that the .308 is a staggered feed as I don't actually have one to check) it will pull slightly different... also with one less round it will relieve some of the tension on the spring as well... also I may be talking out of my *** here too, but hey it is the internet and I'm pretty sure that is what the internet was invented for

DL a free copy of the ARMY TM 9-1005 319-23&P manual and go start at page 2-20 on troubleshooting.

LAR/LR/AR 10 can be diagnosed the same as an AR15 clone using this info.

Did you check if your magazine feed lips are cracked? Possible that it only shows up when you got the magazine fully loaded (when it’s got the most spring tension)

Trying another pmag or another brand of mag would be my $0.02 as next step

                      Also what’s the lower

We noticed the mag was actually bulging when loaded. Not sure what that means. I hunt with it so like to use the handle to load as I'm trying to be as quiet as possible so will have to check it when back out again. These are all good ideas folks and thanks. I've got a 10 round steel mag on order.

Lower is JL Billet a local shop.

Adjustable gas blocks aren't very expensive.
