    Pistol transport minimum requirements

Hello, pistols have to be in a locked case, but if I am hiking or backpacking and want to transport a pistol to my home (tent) and want the minimum size and weight possible. Does anyone make a soft nylon bag that has lockable zippers? Is that legal or does it need to be a hard case?

Please spare the "who's gonna know" responses

Several manufacturer's make a pistol rug with either a locking zipper, or loops for a mini-padlock, they are very common, check Amazon. My local gun shop usually carries a brand called Allen.

I have at least twenty gun rugs for small, medium and large handguns. They all have wire loops and zipper tabs with holes so they can be secured with a small pad lock. I have a dozen small padlocks (I bought three packs with four locks) that are all keyed alike and I always have a key on my key ring so I don't get where I'm going and realize I forgot the key.
Lockable gun rugs are just as legal as hard cases.

Excellent!! Gun rugs, that's what I was looking for. Funny name. I also got a bunch of cheap little padlocks. Thanks again.

As far as I am aware, the law states "a locked container". Doesn't mention anything about the containers construction.

"Who's gonna know?" JK, a padlocked gun rug would be my choice.

yep, the idea behind the locked case laws is not to prevent theft, but simply to slow you down should you need to access it, so a soft case with a pitiful little lock is perfectly legal.

it's a direct attack on your right to defend yourself, imo. if you were able to get your gun out of a locked case fast enough to use in self defense, they would question whether it was truly self defense, or if you preemptively unlocked the case, intending to use the weapon offensively.

LOL, I know no one would know, but if anything ever happened, they'd say "You didn't carry your gun in a locked case? You're going to jail mister!!" and my purpose really would not be to carry, but to have it in the tent at night.

Though bulkier then some, I like the Maxpedition gun rug. They come in a couple of different sizes and are quite durable. They also have lockable zipper pulls.

Get a hunting license and hike/camp in areas that allow hunting.

Soft case fine. Only AWs have a hard case requirement.

I just brought a ruger ml 1 back in rug with lock. Read the regs.

I carry my HK USP45 tactical in my thigh holster daily while driving or walking around town.

Some days it's concealed and some days open.
