How do you store your bolt-action rifle

    Hi

I am a beginner of gun world and I just purchased a bolt-action rifle. Since I don't have much space in my apartment to put a gun safe, I bought a hard gun case (Browning Bruiser gun cases) and intended to use it to store my long gun. I think I can use it for both storage AND travel.

But when I received the gun case today, there is a note with the gun case suggesting to put gun in the gun safe and use the case only when traveling.

Would someone please tell me what will be the issue/problem to store my gun in the hard gun case?

The padding in the case may retain moisture and lead to rusting.

Get a safe.... especially these days.... don't come back onto CG and posting the s/n of your stolen gun when it is not secured by a safe...

i have my rifles oiled in the garage...

but if you make sure your gun is oiled it shouldn't rust. but then again i like to touch my guns often.

but if your referring to safety, just pull the bolt out

If you're going to store in a hard case make sure it is locked or there is a lock on your rifle when you are away from home.

If the hard case is in the house rust will not be problem unless you leave it covered in sweaty finger prints.

As for it being stolen from your apartment don't get wrapped around the axle about it. Keep it in the case in the back of a closet. A theif will take your TV or some other valuable first unless he knows you have a gun. If you have kids you'll have to fugure out a way to keep it out of reach.

If you are NOT going to properly store your long gun in a safe of some sort then I would suggest removing the bolt so if someone takes it in the case it is NOT functional.

Get yourself a bag of silica packets and throw a few of them into the gun case to help a bit with neutralizing moisture.

+1 on the Gun safe and leaving a slight oily sheen on the surface of the rifle.

                  All good advice.

If you can not purchase a gun safe at least remove the bolt from the rifle. Secure the bolt somewhere safe or leave in your car..If it is stolen it would be useless. Also write down the model number and serial number. Keep records safe for insurence claims and to help recover if cops nail the perp.

The foam in most cases tend to liquify when in contact with many types of oils. Really cheap security cabinets can be had at Wal-Mart. These can be lag bolted to the wall studs. It won't seriously slow down a determined thief, but will frustrate or stop the average smash and grab.

An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......Cicero

These work well. Also +1 on removing the bolt.

I store my Rifle in a hard case in the back of my closet behind hanging clothes and such. I'm not worried about anyone finding it, including my apartment manager.
