You do not really expect any of us to say no, do you?

If you can afford it and are having fun, keep going.

I doesn’t like like you’re a hunter. That opens up a whole lot more interesting calibers, cartridges and gauges

In before the "that's a cute list" or "nice start" comments.

As far as necessary the question is "do I need a rifle round beyond 556?"

Calguns reply: If the answer is no, you should still buy the 308!

So the hunting comment is interesting as it’s something I have always wanted to do but put off...starting to realize I need to move on that, especially since my son’s been bugging me to take him hunting.

You are missing a “reach out and touch someone caliber”

.308 is a great one, you can hot rod it to 1k and there are a gazillion loads and components. Your only problem at present will be obtaining LRP whatcha aren’t as bad as SPP but still at about a 2-3X premium.

I would get a 308 if I where you. For me I am a hunter, mostly squirrels to deer and pigs up to 250lbs. My biggest cal. is a 6.5 CM I am looking into a 308 for elk but I am on the fence on not getting the 308 and sticking with a 6.5 CM. I am just trying to decide. Elk would be in 300 yards.

308 is a great choice.AR10 is a good platform, the only down side is it's not as standard as AR15 but still much more compatible with third party parts than most other rifles. You might also look at the G3, ptr has some good clones. Another choice is a FAL with DSA making new clones.

So, between the Sig 716i and POF Revolution DI, would one serve as a possible hunting rifle? The Sig is $1K cheaper and comes with a 4.5-14x44 scope but the POF is 2 pounds lighter (basically an AR-15 chambered in .308).

Absolutely get 308 and build up semi-auto and bolt guns to run it.

Four AR15s and no bolt gun, how strange. It's like owning four economy cars and no pickup truck.
