I tried to fly home 4 boxes of re-manufactured 10MM ammo I bought at a gunshow in new Orleans once. The ammo was in plastic MTM boxes and they (Delta)refused to let me fly with them. Had to scramble to a UPS place to mail them home. They needed to be in the factory boxes..no exceptions. Alaska air let me check in MTM boxes no problem.

If you're lucky, the TSA will make sure they are safe.

If you can find it on their website, print out the applicable pages with the airline masthead and lay that in with the ammo.

It's not the word of God unless their fellow employee entered it into the system. Holy crap, this isn't that hard and will cost you ten minutes of your life.

BTW be advised that although some airlines will allow those plastic MTM boxes, they CAN pop open. I opened a bag once and saw ammo spilled all over in it. Put a rubber band around the box to be sure.

I’ve flow with loaded mags in leather belt holsters half a dozen times. Never called ahead. Never had a problem because of ammo.

I did have baby Huey tsa guy tell me my hard sided locking suitcase wasn’t a hard sided locking case. But that was another issue.

I've always flown with the stuff in their factory boxes and never had a problem or questions.
