Flying to Orlando, driving back....with a firearm?

    Hi folks,

I think I know the answers but thought I'd soundboard with y'all.
I need to fly in to Florida and drive back with my daughter who is moving back to Ca. This will be right after the election and the US is in a very uptight atmosphere. (don't even get me started on the Hurricanes)

I have CA, OR, and AZ non resident carry permits.
From what I can find, I should be good to carry all the way through my journey with the EXCEPTION of FL.

I've flown with firearms before so I'm familiar with the process. I am a wee worried though because I have to switch planes on this trip.

    Questions:
    • Any violations for me flying into Florida/MCO with a properly stored firearm? (no plans to carry on person while in the state)
    • What are my risks of baggage theft/loss in general with a checked firearm?

What other tips for my road trip through the southern states?

    Thanks guys!

    You’ll be fine.

For the most part, the firearm and luggage will be monitored more closely. Don’t carry in FL. Once you get to outside of FL state line, load it and conceal.

A buddy wanted to fly to GA to buy a big bar b cue, and he asked me to fly out and drive back. I have a CA permit only.

I checked GA and every state on the route back, I don't think there were any issues, either my permit was good or they were constitutional carry, or car carry was legal.

      Please do your own verification.

Check your CCW licenses against the states on your route with the Reciprocity Map.

FL doesn't recognize any of the licenses you hold, including AZ out-of-state. So, locked, unloaded in the trunk should do it.

Take all paperwork to apply for a Florida CWL. They require a fingerprint card from Law Enforcement, but most places in CA have shut down the wet print process. In FL, they can do a Livescan to meet the requirements.

Enjoy the hurricanes...(They'll have peaked by then).

Although you can’t CCW in Florida, you may carry your (unloaded) weapon in your glove box.

Get one of these and throw a couple Master locks on it. Qualifies as the hard case to fly your gun and lets you lock everything away from the ramp monkeys.
