Almost 600 employees at the Remington Arms plant in Ilion were told Friday that they would be terminated, effective Monday, the local union said.

The Remington Outdoor Company is also refusing to pay severance and accrued vacation benefits, according to a statement from the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA), the union that represents the workers.

Probably drop the stuff thats not profitable and old and move to a better state.

The new owners. They should have included the accrued vacation as part of their debt in the bk proceedings. If they didn't, the judge won't be happy.

It's a potentially interesting case study in either 'creative destruction'...

Schumpeter describes creative destruction as the "process of industrial mutation that incessantly revolutionizes the economic structure from within, incessantly destroying the old one, incessantly creating a new one."

The theory of creative destruction assumes that long-standing arrangements and assumptions must be destroyed to free up resources and energy to be deployed for innovation...

As is implied by the word destruction, the process inevitably results in losers and winners. Entrepreneurs and workers in new technologies will inevitably create disequilibrium and highlight new profit opportunities. Producers and workers committed to the older technology will be left stranded...

Or, an object lesson in what happens and what will happen when Democrats gain control and the sharks (corporate raiders) smell blood in the water.

I'm curious as to how many employees the remington plant had prior to this. I mean was 585 employees 20%, 50%, 90%, etc. of the workforce?

So remington's done for? I'd imagine the current demand for ammo would be more than enough to retain those people imo.

I don't think this pertains to the ammunition side.

Remington was sold off in pieces to bidders. Remington from decades past has not existed for sometime. And now, will no longer.
