    .45 special........anyone shooting it?

I bought quite a few boxes of .45 SPL. and not having any personal experience with it, was intrigued by it. I will admit it made me laugh on the first cylinder full.......no recoil and was a lot of fun to shoot. I will have to clean the cylinder before I run .45 Colt through it. It also leaves unburnt powder in the cylinder which I just blew out before reloading the cylinder. 180 gr. @ 475 FPS is a little anemic, but a hoot to shoot............

    Anyone else shooting .45 SPL?

Are you refering to the Cowboy 45 special? It's a 45acp length with 45 Colt rim. I have a bag of the brass but have never bought loaded ammo. There are probably only a few outfits selling 45 cowboy special ammo primarily to cowboy shooters. As far as reloading it you could load to any normal 45acp data.

I won a couple of boxes of tenex 45 Colt ammo and compared to my standard 250gr loads it was very light. Just a pop when it went off. 160 gr and I think it was under 500 fps.

The one thing this might have going for it is it's diameter: a .450" 180 gr @ 475 fps. I presume lead RNFP? or just round-nose...

PAGING Paul Harrell! We need a meat test!

Either way, I'm sure it's fun to shoot, but as to it's effectiveness for personal defense against a living 200 lbs? Who knows. Point blank? maybe.

But was that stuff loaded in .45 Colt-length brass? OP is talking about some new short.

Learn something everyday. I have never heard of .45 special. Sounds a lot like .45 auto rim.

For those who want to use a shorter (acp size) round in their 45 LC revolvers.
And more rounds in lever action rifles.

              Intended for cowboy action shooters.

Softer shooting. Was introduced I believe about 2004-2005?

I looked into it years ago, and was interested. But Starline is the only place that makes brass, and it's expensive. So I passed.
