Question regarding moving into Califronia with guns

I'll be moving to California in a few days for grad school, but unfortunately to make it affordable I have to live in subsidized campus housing. As much as I want to keep my firearms (I'm coming from a very gun-friendly state and am used to having them), frankly I just want to get rid of them now to avoid this hassle and any possible legal issues which might jeopardize my future. (Note: I'm planning to park my car off campus with my guns locked in the trunk to prevent the issue of having the guns on campus in the meantime)

I read the following requirements for those moving into a state with the gun and have a question about number (2):

(a) Within 60 days of bringing a handgun, and commencing
January 1, 2014, any firearm, into this state, a personal firearm
importer shall do one of the following:
(1) Forward by prepaid mail or deliver in person to the
Department of Justice, a report prescribed by the department
including information concerning that individual and a
description of the firearm in question.
(2) Sell or transfer the firearm in accordance with the
provisions of Section 27545 or in accordance with the provisions
of an exemption from Section 27545.
(3) Sell or transfer the firearm to a dealer licensed pursuant
to Sections 26700 to 26915, inclusive.
(4) Sell or transfer the firearm to a sheriff or police
department.

If I just want to sell these to get rid of them, can I post them here in the marketplace and meet the other buyer at a licensed dealer to make the transaction? Or do I have to register them first before doing this? I guess my question comes down to whether or not I can sell my guns on here within 60 days and avoid filling out a "BOF 4010A New Resident Report of Firearm Ownership" form since I'd have to list my address as a campus housing address and am worried that would be reported to the university.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm having trouble finding info on the second option of that list (where I'm from, you can just meet someone in a parking lot after exchanging messages on Armslist lol). Any advice or help I can get on dealing with this issue is greatly appreciated.

I would not be locking guns in cars, lots of car ransacking these days, they don't care if it's tinted or old. Better to maybe pay a gun store to store them or consign them maybe.

In order to sell any off roster handguns you will need to have a Ca ID, also you can not bring or sell anything Ca deems an assault weapon, or any magazines that hold over 10 rounds. Selling without a Ca ID may be a challenge, since it will be considered a dealer transfer, and the buyer will be subject to an unregulated transfer fee from the dealer. Some buyers may not mind, but many dealers are charging anything from $50 to well over $100 these days.

Storing guns in your parked vehicle is a real bad idea. Ca has seen a huge increase in many areas of vehicle burglaries, it's just not worth the risk.

You're probably better off leaving the guns with a family member or very trusted friend out of state. Especially if your plan is to leave them in a vehicle.

I didn't think about paying a gun store to store them- that's a good idea. I looked into storage lockers but most of them don't allow guns, so that would be a good alternative.

I'm confident I could sell them in 60 days here if I priced them properly. Should have sold them before leaving but didn't really consider I might not be able to have them here.

I just need to know if I can sell them before filling out the BOF 4010A since I'm concerned with the state reporting my ownership of the firearms to the university since I'll technically be living on the campus. I've heard of expulsions for students owning guns...

I think you have to establish residency to sell them here. If you are just coming for school, you should probably sell all of them beforehand, except for maybe one.

And storing them in a vehicle is neither wise nor legal.

Depending on how many guns, sell before coming will be at a pawn shop for cheap. I'd probably sell if you don't enjoy them, keep with trusted family or friend if you want to keep them.

You do not have to file the form, but you have to do one or the other, not both. To file the form you'll need to have an Ca ID. That may be tough with the state of DMV these days.

The state does not share the information in AFS (automated firearms system) with anyone who does not have access to get it themselves. Additionally campus police can't go on a fishing expedition to find who may own guns.

You need CA ID before you can sell or register them. Not sure what that entails right now since people with expired licenses cannot even get new ones. Good luck!

If you intend to return to another state, keep them there. Grad school is a year or two, that will go fast.

If you had planned on leaving your guns in your trunk, you must be leaving one of the nicest, most heavenly, best places in America. My condolences.

In California, consider them stolen from your trunk even before you arrive. Again, my condolences.

Unfortunately I can't leave it behind with anyone I know since my family is actually very anti-gun, and my range buddy who got me into shooting guns in college has moved to NYC for his job (we both just finished undergrad together). My family would actually be pretty upset with me if they knew I had guns lol. Also I'm doing a 5 year (at least) program, ruling out any temporary arrangements back home.

I've been in contact with some other incoming students who have already moved to the university housing, and they tell me the DMV line is long but that it wasn't a problem to get their new license. So I should be able to get that promptly (although it takes a few weeks to mail it).

All my guns that I'm bringing are handguns, so does anyone know if a safety deposit box at a bank would be a viable storage option? I can also call around to see about paying a gun shop to store them, as suggested above.

If possible, I think this will be my best bet since I don't think I can get in trouble for having them if they're stored off campus. If this works I may actually be able to keep one (although I won't have it nearby for self defense, which sorta defeats the purpose but I guess I'll take what I can get).

Look for some local gun stores in your area that might offer or know of cheap long-term storage solutions - just so you know your options.

These days I would not so much as sell a pop gun. I'll grease up, seal, and bury **** in out in the middle of nowhere if I had to.
