    Looking to Shoot 300 - 500.....

I've got a friend who would like to shoot 300 - 500 yards. He lives in south San Jose and is looking to drive maybe several hours. What ranges are available at those distances?

    Thanks!

    Circle S, Petaluma, 100, 200, 300 yards.

Be forewarned, there is usually a line for those bays at the range in the morning, but if he gets there around 11-11:30am, spots start opening up as the coastal wind f***'s up the precision shooters' bullseye Cha Cha and they leave. It's almost like clockwork.

Sounds harsh, but that's been my observation the last 6 times that I went.

Sacramento has a range that lets you shoot up to 300 as a non member. You just need to show them you're on paper at 100 before so, then they will give you a certification printout that lasts for a year or so.

Sacramento Valley Shooting Center is 860+ acres and 13 ranges in Sloughhouse, CA. Public pistol, rifle, and trap shooting plus 30+ affiliated clubs.

Coalinga is 150 miles away, they're a club but you can check with them to see if they have open shooting.

Am I'm the only one that things were have a real lack of ranges with these common distances. Anything over 100 yards a hours away or hours of wait. What is the problem.

San Luis Obispo has one that goes to 1400 yards.

Didn't Laguna Seca have that? Dunno if they're still open.

This might be a fun upgrade or alternative to your request for 300-500 yard shooting....
I compete twice monthly (3rd and 4th Saturday's) at Sacramento Valley Shooting center in their military rifle Silhouette matches.
Been doing so for the past 5 years and never missed a match, It's that much fun!
Pre and post '45 rifles are shot on the 3rd Sat. and semi auto rifles are shot on the 4th sat.
It's a GREAT time and you will meet some great shooters and have an excuse to get out and use your rifle for more than punching paper.
They do allow NON military style rifles to compete as NON prize eligible, so you can at least have some fun.
                  Here is a link:

A couple of pics of the range and past matches:

PM me if you have any questions, I can advise you to what you will need at a bare minimum, If you don't have anything more than a rifle and ammo, no problem, you will be paired with one of the regulars, who will have what you need to compete.

Thanks so much, guys. If anyone has some other suggestions, please post them. I'm going to link my friend to this thread. Cheers!

If he doesn't mind shooting up a hill and can go off times, I believe Spenceville might range out to 500 yards at the top.

At Spenceville, 500? Maybe if you wait till everyone leaves and shoot from the road you can get 500. If you don't have the right dope and shoot over the hill, there's farmland, ranches and houses potentially past that. Maybe diagonally from the bench with the tree to the other threes at the far left. Please let me know how to get 500 from that unsupervised range, would love to get Oroville distance from Spenceville.

Top of the hill is about 300 yards, you can get a little further if you shoot from the right side bench to the far left of the range but that walk out there on an unsupervised range is a little sketchy by yourself

I am surprised with all the answers. Asking for a nice place to shoot is almost like asking a fisherman where the best place to catch fish is. Most do not want to give away the honey hole. Calgunner props.

I said might. I remembered that one of the lower oak trees had a target hanging on it and I thought it was around 300 yards and there was quite a lot of hill beyond it.
