Market Place Rant

So here is my market place rant for the last 12 months,

Bought:

S&W Model 27 with 6.5" to replace my 5" that I'm just setting aside as I've had it 37 years - it was my first hand gun and my first duty weapon too.

Winchester Model 1873, 24" which was NIB, and has now about 120 rounds through it and is awesome to shoot, probably the most accurate rifle for me to shoot not using a table or bipod.

Browning A5 16 Gauge; so the story here is cool to me; I was loaned one at age 15 while hunting with my father by a friend of his. I had hunted with a 20 gauge and wanted a 12. Dad said I wasn't ready for a 12 Friend loans us the A5 and I loved it. The guy wanted $300 for it (1980) and my dad balked and wouldn't pay it. I had some money and dad wouldn't let me. I was peeved - well Dad - I got it for $325 this year. So there pop (he's been gone a while just makes me smile).

CZ 75 my 2nd CZ as I had gotten a Rami to carry about 5 years ago now and had had it as my CCW firearm. I love shooting it, its weight really is perfect for me and so I decided to put the old P series 9mm's aside and go with the CZ line. The 75 is my 2nd.

Traded a RIA 1911 Compact 45, bought many years ago, fired a box through it, and didn't really enjoy the pounding my hand took from that tiny cannon. It went towards the CZ 75.

So I've had a good 12 months on the Market Place - my rant is really a rave. Everyone seems to find only things to complain about in the market place - I find it the coolest shopping online.

Someone tried to scam me but to me it's like craigslist, so business as usual. Oh, someone sent me 3d printed parts for an annealer for cheap. My edc ccw is because of the marketplace and has never jammed through thousands of rounds.

I can understand that there are some scammers working the market place considering current times, and there will always be the flakes, buyer or sellers. The prices will always have a tendancy to be high because lets admit that everybody's firearm is rare, 1 of 3 produced, LNIB, or other reasons.
That being said since a member I have had great outcomes with the people in the market place. Some have become friends that I still talk to today.
You just have to feel the situation out.

For raving, I scored a gen 4 G35 for $450 back in March. Can't even tell it's been used, previous owner put on dawson adjustable fibers, grip tape, and a tungsten recoil rod, then put it back in the safe. He was selling a ZEV G24 for a song that I'm still kicking myself for not getting at the same time.

Before that I traded a PM9 straight across for a nearly new 590A1 plus ammo.

Calguns is a nice place to do business the vast majority of the time.

It's a different marketplace now. All of the noobs have moved in trying to extort money from longtime members. But they don't understand that we're a little smarter than that. Pretty soon they are going to be driving their prices considerably. Then we can pick everything up on the cheap.

Somebody had brass listed for sale, including some obscure stuff. I said "I'll take such and such, PM incoming" He PMed me back with his address for payment, then shipped the brass when he received it.

I've never bought through the Marketplace, but have sold a few. Every transaction has been problem free.

Have had nothing but positive experiences and met a lot of cool gun people over the years and also stay in touch with several. Good times.

I've had mostly good experience. Encountered bunch of flakes for the first time last year.

All my marketplace transactions were all good.

Bought a CZ 75 Compact in excellent condition for 500 at the height of plandemic and shutdowns from marketplace. The user seemed new, no one bit. Couple months later, I see couple cz 75 compact on marketplace for 750+ that sells.

Also bought a Chinese SKS for 300 with all matching # and bayo at around start of the plandemic.

Bought 1k factory new fiocchi 9mm rounds back in May? for $200.

Bought 1020 - 7.62x39 last month for $340.

Bought Hit Armory M72 16" RPK for 950 OTD.

This is all since around Feb/March of this year.

CG community has been great to me.

I have had a few dumb questions and lowball offers while selling. But all of my in person transactions have been seamless and professional.
I have purchased more than half of my firearms and optics from the marketplace and it has allowed me to stretch my dollar alot farther.
You will always find a few bad apples but compared to craigslist the people here are generally honest and intelligent.

Well said, my thoughts exactly.

No damn way I'm paying $1200 for a stock G19 or a CZ75. I've picked up 3 pistols since March on the Marketplace all at fair prices. It just takes patience and the search function.

One of those buys was as simple as putting a WTB buy ad up saying 'this is what I want and this is what I'll pay' I had a response in 2 weeks and a smooth deal to boot.

I like the marketplace, its like any other marketplace tho. Some good, some bad, mostly average. I have seen a lot of dumb stuff in the market place tho, my new favorite is the Covid-19 “bundles”. I cringe every time I read that. Someone has put together $1000 worth of stuff and is trying to “help” someone during this tough time by charging $3500.
