Recommending OC Guns in Lake Forest

For the record, I have no affiliation with this shop. In fact, it was a quick change of plans when the Turners down the street told me that they had a 3-week wait for a PPT.

We pivoted at the last minute and did a PPT at the OC Guns shop in Lake Forest, CA yesterday. It was refreshing to see a shop with actual inventory.

The PPT went flawless, I was the seller. It was also very affordable, just a small fee on top of the DROS itself.

They also had dozens of handguns on the shelf, all on consignment but the prices were in line with the prices here on the marketplace.

I THINK their consignment fee is only 10%. Not confirmed but overheard at the counter.

I’ve been to OC Guns a handful of times. They’ve never steered me wrong. Their consignment selection is really good.

The last time I was in there, I was coming in kind of embarrassed because I was changing some grips on a 1911 I had just acquired, and the bushings were stuck in there solid and I stripped the bushing slot attempting to get it out. The gentleman that helped me out explained it wasn’t an uncommon issue, and had the stripped bushings out of the frame within about 10 minutes and refused to accept payment or a tip for his help. I left them a good yelp review and will give them my business in the future.

I’ve shopped at that particular Turner’s down the street in Lake Forest before, but things are getting a bit ridiculous there. They don’t allow anyone in for casual shopping or looking at supplies. They escort you around only if you know exactly what you want, and it’s 2 to 3 weeks to get an appointment to buy any firearm including stuff on consignment, which is not guaranteed to be there in 2 to 3 weeks. The phone number that they give you to make an appointment always has a full mailbox so it’s impossible to leave a message.

I love that place. I go so often they know me with a Mask...hahahaha.

The DROS fee is $47.19. The same as every FFL statewide.

Not my experience. I've sold a couple of PPTs at OT and it was easy mode both times. Maybe that was due to being before the current panic. Last one I was in and out in 15 minutes.

I've tried go to that OC Guns store a few times (live in Lake Forest) and they have been closed every time I've gone during normal business hours.

Being a member and having a regular dialogue with the employees there, I can say firsthand that they are working hard from open to close, and moving through people as quickly as politeness allows. It won't do them much good if they rush and make mistakes.

I've bought and sold on consignment there. Outside of the COVID Crush, it's pretty easy service. Now, you're going to have to wait while they work through the traffic of new shooters, new buyers and explaining the rules of the game ad nauseam to people who showed up late to the party, so to speak.

TLDR; they're doing the best they can.
