Regarding the M14 - is this link accurate?

The .308 cut through the thick growth of Vietnam jungles, and the original 5.56 rounds used crappy powder. For someone there before '67, that's the gist of it.

Now if we'd gone the FAL route...

It wasn't a perfect rifle but it wasn't a terrible rifle either. It was used in Vietnam by some Marine units all of the way through the first quarter of 1968.
