Firearm Pricing Question

I've fallen into a bit of debt due to replacing the clutch on my car & had to throw it on my credit card. I'm curious to know what a well-used SIG P239 in .40 would go for.

I've had it since 2004 and put quite a lot of rounds downrange with it, and it shoots like a dream. I'm not trying to gouge anyone, but I'm trying to pare down my credit card debt.

For those who might want to see pics in order to assess, I'm not at home to do so. The idea just crossed my mind to maybe sell it off.

Add some for California, subtract some if it’s shot a lot .. you get the idea


Ultimately it’s worth as much as you can get someone to pay for it and not a penny more.

Did you do any type of search on here to see what other calgunners have either listed or sold the same firearm for?

Price it high and see what offers you get. If you price it too low and get a lot of offers then the mods say you can't raise the price to reflect what people are willing to pay. The way they set it up pretty much requires you overprice it to start. In addition to that people always want to feel like they got a deal so they'll offer you less.

So, price it high to to offset the risk that you've underpriced it and add some so the buyer can feel like they talked you down some. I f you're not getting any offers then lower your price a bit and see what happens.

If you want to sell it fast then go low. Might be able to sell it same day. It all depends on you're time-line.

Problem with trying to price something in this market is that things are very volatile. One day it'll go for a lot and the next it won't.

There's no such thing as gouging. You're selling a gun. Not food or water. Its worth whatever people are willing to spend

There's a bunch for sale or that have sold in the marketplace. You could always message the sold listers and see what they were able to get.

Do you have other ones? If not, maybe don’t sell it for another 2 mo or so....

Considering the P239 has been out of production for a few years now, it's still (to my knowledge) on the California Handgun Roster, it's arguably still what many consider a handgun designed for concealed carry, and people are still paying Covid prices, I'd say tack on 20-25% more than what you originally paid for it and be willing to put an "Or Best Offer" next to that price tag when you bring it into the gun store for consignment. If your lucky someone might just ask to buy it off you before you even manage to finish the consignment paperwork with the dealer.

Or..... You could always ask a generic pricing question in the "General Gun" forum to get more exposure to the item you're looking to sell...... and hope you get more bites.

Cash, cash, and only cash! PayPal might be okay. Plenty of easy to get scammed out of money on venmo.
