A young buck I know is heading off to college in the PRK and wants to know if he can bring his off roster pistol. He'll be in his own apartment and he's 21 as of August.
Any law prohibiting that? He is not, nor will he become a California citizen. He's a Washingtonian going to school in California.

No mags over ten rounds and no threaded barrel. Otherwise good to go as far as I am aware. Not sure if there is a "going to school" exception to register the gun with CADOJ within 60 days of arriving here.

Notwithstanding subdivision (k), a university or college shall post a prominent notice at primary entrances on noncontiguous property stating that firearms are prohibited on that property pursuant to this subdivision.

He will be in off campus housing I think he'll be in Albany. Good tiponmaking sure his lease doesn't prohibit guns.

I went to a state school with an on-campus PD and had the option of keeping a firearm there. Call ahead without telling them who you are to see if that's an option if he's living in "student housing," which can include off-campus apartments and other housing that's tied to the school in some way.

You also should read up on the gun storage laws in Ca. If it's not in a safe when he is in school and it's stolen I think they could screw with him about unsafe storage. I don't know the laws that well but he should do some research on it. If the neighbors kids got in and found it and accidently shot each other or someone else you can bet the law would be all over him.

Also check the transport laws for firearms, want to avoid problems on the way there and back. Also he probably shouldn’t CCW without clearly knowing the laws of the state, city and county.
Best to double check everything as he can get in big trouble quickly.
