Traveling out of state with ammo

I'm going to be visiting friends in Gilbert, AZ, and we're most likely to be going shooting out there. Should I just buy ammo there instead of bringing my own? If I bring my own, would I need to shoot it all before coming back across the border into CA?

It's a dumb question, but CA's gun laws are dumb, so....

I want to bring my SKS, 12ga, and 1911. I don't wanna deal with the BS of crossing state lines with a RAW, so I'm leaving the AK and ARs at home.

Taking it out is not a problem, bringing it back has many opinions, some legal, some real-world practical but technically illegal.

Bring what you need, leave any extra with your buddies and have them buy you a beer/meal, whatever is fair.

That's probably the best option, tbh. Thanks

I just went to el paso to hunt. I took 6.8 spc and 12 gauge steel. Left the steel and brought the 6.8 back about 50 rounds in mags. Lots of shotgun and .223 there to purchase. I have about 20 boxes of shotgun ammo there and 500 22s and a hundred rounds of 6.8 spc.

No one knows how much I brought with me - I also, haven't purchased ammo since the background checks and my safe seems to be overflowing

What I am saying is not illegal as again - I packed my kit on my way out and I packed my kit on my way back home.

Only in California can you leave the state with with your own property but can't legally bring it back with you.

If you bought in California, you can bring it back with you.

I've never made it habit to hold onto receipts for ammo. It's always been for things like car repairs, etc. etc.

How can I prove that I bought it in CA? That's the thing. Aside from receipts, which I definitely do not have, there's nothing showing I purchased said ammo in CA.

It's probably a "wish in one hand and crap in the other to see which fills up first," I know.

You don't have to prove you bought it in California. Prosecutor has to prove you didn't.
