Steel pipe full of cosmoline should do it.

By long term, I mean it only goes afield a couple times per year. I know thats not really long term, but longer than I’d leave it in a hard case.

I like that cmp case, been thinking about that style for other uses, but not sure they exist for random rifles, and probably expensive if they do.

A well oiled (or greased or waxed) rifle in a gun sock in a airtight case with dessicant and minimal contact points with foam is a good idea, I use gunsocks myself in the safe.

Loose fitting closed cell foam is a good idea, will look into it. I seem to recall that stuff was a bit pricey.

The Reusable ZCORR bags look like just the thing - anybody used them?

I agree that thoughtful preparation counts for a lot. Brought to temp after the field, well cleaned, dried, oiled.

I appreciate the ideas, team. Thanks, keep them coming please.

Vacuum seal the bag and put in a hard case to keep the bag from getting holes or tears in it. I have a couple of pre 2000 guns in storage and they look brand new. Brownells also sells storage bags.

No idea on cases, but as far as treating the rifle ahead of time, I'd seriously consider Rennaisance wax or Eezox.

I've been using Eezox in particular on all my knives & guns for years & have never had a spot of rust on any of my gear.

It is an impressive rust preventative, but I also use it as my only CLP for my guns.

        Can't recommend it highly enough.

            Clean it.
            Dry it.
Oil it with a rust preventative oil.
Pack it in VCI (vapor/volatile corrosion inhibiting) bags
Store in low humidity place (using desiccants in your case)
Check it every year or so.

This is exactly the route I have chosen. Thanks for all the input, team!
