just curious, as I do not follow AR pistol threads much at all, but if you had a spare lower sitting around that was DROSd as a long gun/rifle, could you buy a AR 1 shot sled pistol upper and slap it together and be legal? or does the lower have to be a "pistol" DROSd lower?10 +1 in the chamberComment

No can do, it has to be DROS'd as a "Pistol" to avoid breaking Fed SBR laws.just curious, as I do not follow AR pistol threads much at all, but if you had a spare lower sitting around that was DROSd as a long gun/rifle, could you buy a AR 1 shot sled pistol upper and slap it together and be legal? or does the lower have to be a "pistol" DROSd lower?Comment

thanks.. physically speaking, they are the exact same lower, no?
so do you just say you want to DROS it as a "pistol" instead of a "rifle"?
assuming so, why would an FFL elect to DROS the exact same lower as a "rifle" but pass on doing your DROS if you asked to have it done as a "pistol"?10 +1 in the chamberComment

Pretty much, but pistols have to be dros'd as complete unless it has been dros'd before and it is a ftf exchange. AR Pistols are not on the safe list therefore when acquiring one you have to have it be complete and in a single shot conversion with some kind of bb as well. That is how you get exempted from the safe list for pistols. Which is deifferent from rifles since there is no safe drop listthanks.. physically speaking, they are the exact same lower, no?

no, you can't just have a lower DROSed as a pistol because then the ROster comes into play. A bare lower is not Roster-exempt, but a dimensionally-compliant single-shot handgun is roster-exempt. That is why people have single-shot ARs built up out of state, shipped to the local FFL, and then it can be DROSed as a pistol.Jack
Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

okay.. makes sense... thanks. since not following AR pistols much, I was wondering in the back of my head if I could just take a spare lower I had and make one OR take my lower and have it reDROSd as a "pistol".. but I see now why I could not do either.10 +1 in the chamberComment

There's an additional requirement, and that's that the pistol lower is created and originally specified by the manufacturer as a pistol lower.
See Anvil Arms pistol lower for an ideal starting point: http://anvilarms.com/pc-326-19-regis...-receiver.aspx
No affiliation with Anvil Arms, just a satisfied repeat customer."Ecuador offers the United States $23 million a year in economic aid, an amount similar to what we were receiving under the tariff benefits, with the purpose of providing human rights training that will contribute to avoid violations of people's privacy, that degrade humanity," --Fernando AlvaradoComment

1 other thing.. why would an FFL opt to pass on DROS on an AR pistol? at my FFL the other day and he was DROSing rifles, lowers, pistols, but a guy called and asked if he would DROS a complete AR pistol and he said no.. why? If it is a pistol and legit, why not DROS it?10 +1 in the chamberComment
