Atlantic just got an order in of the Z Pap, but they sold out in minutes. I'd stay away from the C39. Even in the gen 2, there's still trunnion issues. There's youtube vids about that.

Over those two defiantly the Z pap. Look at a wasr10 before you consider the c39.

I heard 39 was the worst too. But i only have a wasr10. AKs get hot just so you know. And not having a pistol grip really hinders operation compared to an AR

I would not buy a c39. American-built AKs are not the same as the ones built in the former communist countries. Buy them from those that have been building them for the last 50 years.

Absolutely NOT the C39V2.

If those are your only two options, then the Zastava M70 (especially if it's the new one with the bulged trunnion) is the easy choice.

Don't limit yourself though. There are several different import AKs on the market besides Zastava!

I’ve owned and built 12 AR15s in the past 10 years but never owned a AK, been tempted lately. Seen some really nice AKs on this forums, a user Ivnlobo posted his AK last month which I fell for and got the gears turning.

Well the first one crashed and burned due to QC issues and was bought out by the second so at least you are keeping it in the family.

As for American made AKs I would buy Kalshnikov USA before PSA. Mostly because they are based on the actual Russian TDP.

As for the OP, never ever buy anything actually made by Century Arms unless you like to live dangerously. Their earlier stamped Yugo based AKs were contracted out and are good to go. The Z-Pap M70 will make an excellent first AK for you.

Go with a Z-PAP or a Century WASR-10. Century's imported AK's may not look pretty, but at least they work and are unlikely to have long term problems. Avoid their C39/VSKA rifles, their home built rifles have had a history of QC problems.

Get an import, they’re made from AK factories for battlefield use. I feel people overthink the AK and want something from it that it wasn’t intended to do.
