    Mateba Griffone - ITS FINALLY HOME!

    I've always been fascinated by the Mateba line of firearms. While I would like the UNICA 6 in 44 mag, this thing popped up.

    What I would like to know, is if CA would treat this thing like a rifle or a handgun? From my point of view, it looks like the revolver with a longer barrel and stock, but Mateba advertises this as a carbine from the ground up.

    So.....in your eyes, is this a rifle or a handgun?

    Assuming the stock can't be folded and 6 shots only, CA regular rifle.

          It’s a fixed stock. I’m only just asking because it’s playform is a pistol with a longer barrel and that stock attached to the beaver tail.

              It has a stock, it has a barrel 16+ inches - it is a Title 1 rifle. Just like the Buntline Carbine

              You can also attach a stock to a Buntline pistol, and it becomes a Title 1 rifle. Take the stock off and it is not a rifle anymore. In free states this is allowed, in CA YMMV

                Having quite a bit of knowledge on Matebas and owning several, the Griffone were manufactured and sold as carbines, so legal in CA as configured.

                However, be sure; some people in other states have added the carbine parts to revolvers sold as handguns. (Well, at least one I came across anyway, several years ago.)

                Also, make sure that seller will ship to CA regardless of legal in CA; many sellers in Gunbroker want nothing to do with CA because of the "verification" and registry process involved that CA requires, even if innocuous.

                If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?

                      Lol I’m really considering it. Need to find a competent FFL and make sure the seller will even ship to me first. I’ve won bids in the past and the seller refused to ship to CA

                      EDIT: just made my bid. Wish me luck

                          Yes sir! Should be arriving to my FFL on Friday for me to start DROS. I also have rubber reproduction grips on the way.

                          How do you like your Matebas? Any new owner advice for me?

                            After a lengthy wait, it's finally back at home. Had to tear it all down to little pieces to remove all the hardened preservative and dry grease that was making the action sluggish and the sear stick. Quite a complicated gun.

                            Anyhow, here it is!

                            @The Gleam

                            I have a few questions regarding the Mateba. Could you e-mail me by chance? Cant PM you.
