Not seen one of these making it's way into the WTS forum are they not popular with the lucky crowd that can obtain them.
Anyone had any range time with this gun, if so, would like to know how it compares to the FN 5.7

I'd imagine it's because 5.7x28 is a niche cartridge here. I also read that the gun is much more picky about certain loads than the FN five seven, so maybe those two reasons are why it's not picking up traction.

5.7x28 is not a popular cartridge. the only real selling point is blacktip and that's limited to the military/government market. on the civilian market its a expensive range toy that fires watered down ammo.

I have been thinking about getting one to replace my .45 ACP for home defense duty, the less noise, less flash all makes sense in a dark small room at night without hearing protection. Its a long ways from watered down, take a look at its ballistics and this is coming from a guy who has always said that making bigger holes is better.

I have the FN 5.7 i was hoping the Ruger would be a game changer given the real price being near half of what the FN is and it would open up the market for the 5.7 cartridge. The more gun manufacturers willing to take a risk and produce their own model the cheaper the round would become. Ballistics wise I'm happy it being up there with 9mm only with less recoil.
Many people own the expensive FN so there must be some love for the round.

i sell every one i get in a few minutes here in AZ.
FN did drop the price as soon as the 57 came out.

i am very interested in the 5.7x28 round and got excited when i saw ruger 57s in stock at buds the other day, but when i looked it doesn't seem like they are on roster in california (even though the FN is)?

FN 57 sellout less then two days every time My FFL get some in.

Also 57 seems to have found a niche in TX. A lot of ranchers have been starting to carrier them on there property in Response to more cartel members carrying them.


Back home even the local SWAT team are using them. (FN). They could be the first to Adopt the Ruger 5.7 As they love the caliber but hate the safety on the FN.

LOL I own one and it is not less noise and flash than a 45ACP Nor is the ammo "watered down" as someone else claimed. It is very much akin to 22TCM which, btw was developed as an alternative to the 5.7x28.
The issue in both cases is armor piecing capability which is why you cannot get 5.7 LE ammo and why TCM is only sold as hollow points.
The round is accurate and high speed but I doubt the efficacy of it in the PRK when you are limited to 10 round magazines. I think you may have to hit a bad guy perfectly or else a lot of times to stop him.
It's standard magazine is 20 rounds. The other big issue is ammo availability, which was scarce before the Covid/election panic and is even worse now. Only FN and Federal are making it and I imagine that Federal is busy making more popular ammo like 9mm and 5.56. Speer is supposedly making Gold Dot 5.7 ammo but I've never seen any actually available in a store or online. The ammo is also expensive with $25/50 rounds for the Federal ammo being the best price I've seen $30-$40 is pricing I've seen for 50 rounds of FN ammo. The 57 is fun to shoot. It's loud and kicks out a big fireball but has minimal recoil and is accurate. It definitely has the power to launch bowling pins and at 20 rounds per magazine (40 in the CMMG Banshee AR pistol) you can shoot a long time between reloads.

Anyone that doubts the effectiveness of the 5.7x28 round should review the workplace violence that occurred at Fort Hood. The round is light and effective, and with the polymer Five-seveN and magazine capacity makes an effective, highly mobile weapon. Some rounds are armor piercing and the inherent instability of the bullet causes it to tumble through soft tissue, leaving a larger hole than you would expect.

Also, for an alternative, I've heard 22TCM is fun...also available in a 1911 frame.

I have never fired mine after sunset or in a darkened room, so I cannot comment of muzzle flash, but I can tell you that from a pistol length barrel, it is very loud, a sharp crack. Much louder than I expected, much louder than a .223 from a rifle length barrel. Virtually no recoil, a fun pleasure to shoot caliber.
