    Ballistic helmet question

Interested In buying my first helmet.
Based on some research, each has shown higher chances of stopping a rifle round that other ballistic helmets?.
Anyone heard of the diamond age bastion helmet????

I just went through a multi-month process of research and shopping a ballistic helmet for myself.

I did not see the brand you speak, but that does not mean its bad, I just didn't come into it.

In my research, I found that head injuries played a small portion of battle field injuries. Even then, head injuries includes injuries from explosive devices and shrapnel, not just bullet wounds.

Here are some combat wound stats.

That said, I did not look for rifle rated head protection. NIJ IIIA is pistol rated to 44mag. I thought that to be more than enough.

In level of priority, I listed below protection I acquired for first to last.

    1) Tourniquet - for bleeding wounds to the extremities
    2) Blood clotting and chest seal (includes decomp needle, trauma/first aid kit)
    3) Body armor - front and back plate with carrier -
    4) Helmet - NIJ IIIA
    5) Side plates

If I didn't need the helmet to mount night vision, I may have never bought it. I do not feel I really needed one, I could've settled for a bump helmet. But a good bump helmet is very close to the cost of a middle of the road ballistic helmet. I just went for it coz it was something that was nice to have.

I purchased the Protection Group Danmark ACH helmet, currently available for pre-order at Bulletproof Zone for under 400 with their current coupon.

I am not affiliated with BPZ.

Most of that stuff about likely wounds is irrelevant unless you're getting deployed. Your noggin is your most important part.

The best deal I've seen is the Armor Source Lightweight ACH being supplied to the Army. I think these are probably cheap because of the color, which you can paint if you want. No comms gadgets added but you can do that if you want.

You know if it's a Mrgunsngear armor review he's going to shoot it.

        Just get an ACH.
Comes with a hole for a rhino mount.

Dude, if rifle rounds are zinging past your dome, chances are you’re already done.
Would be cool to have one, many times with I had one at the clay pits in Oroville, sometimes they don’t wait for you to get back to the benches before the range goes live again...

I dont agree with you on that, but then, it’s all good. I am no expert. We are adults and we make up our own minds.

I agree in the Armorsource helmet. Great price and proven USGI supplier. I would have gotten a PSGT helmet which was in my budget. The PGD helmet just had more features I liked such as the mount and rails.

The bigger question is, why the ef fo you go there if it’s like that?

You can put that stuff on the ACH, it just doesn't come with it. Which makes the price higher, but if you don't need all that stuff you have the option of saving some cash.

I just saw this recently. Might be useful. You need to consider if you will be adding NODs and hearing protection mounts.

sigpicC'mon man, shouldn't we ban Democracks from Cal-Guns? Or at least send them to re-education camps.

It's got markings on where to drill for nods and like that, but yeah, bad idea to put 4 inch long bolts through it.

Most helmets only protect you from handgun rounds/shrapnel/bumps (IIIA). Military/PD uses IIIA helmets. The reason being, the helmets that protect you from rifle rounds are extremely heavy, around 4-4.5lbs+ and after a short amount of time, your head and neck will be extremely uncomfortable and hurt. Invest in a good brand name with a proven track record such as Ops Core and Team Wendy.

I got a surplus German (present day!) kevlar helmet years ago. If someone wants to get me with a .308 or larger, I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it.

This'll get the job done... until it doesn't.
