I feel bad for those just entering the market. I have given close friends just getting into the arena a couple of boxes just so they can try to defend themselves. Hard to convince them to train if they have no ammo.

That multiple seems a little high, but it is what it is.?The constitutional right to bear arms in public for self-defense is not a ?second-class right,? subject to an entirely different body of rules than the other Bill of Rights guarantees.? ?.. The problem now is the supply isn’t there because of the covid factory shutdowns. It’d be slightly easier if there was any relief in sight on that end, bur I haven’t heard of any comingOriginally posted by GoodEyeSniperMy neighbors think I'm a construction worker named Bruce.

Seems right. I found a thousand rounds (mixed brass - PRE-Q3131 and even some Norinco!) one day at a small gunshop at that time, for around $375.
Can't find ANYTHING on a physical shelf around here now, for TWICE that.

Luckily I'm good for the most part went through a lot of work & trouble to buy ammo.A guy told me one time "don't let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat from around the corner"

I learned to stock up during the Rodney King riots.
I (over-)stocked up prior to the 2018 ammo transfer law and am gtg for many years unless I add a new caliber.Originally posted by Kestryll:

"Demand is 10x 2013 level"
I don't know how you begin to quantify this, or really what it means. Is the "demand" they are referring to for ammo at pre-crisis, 2019, prices? At current prices? If the current "demand" for ammo at current prices is 10x the demand in 2013 for ammo at then-current prices, I don't think current prices would be where they are for long - they would be much higher.
Personally, my demand for ammo at current prices is approximately zero - I'm stacked deep. If I had the opportunity to buy at 2019 prices, my "demand" would be almost infinite.
I don't think the 10x figure is meaningful.Pooty Poot, you sure screwed the pooch this time! - Ghost of Roza Shanina, WWII Soviet SniperComment

I share your sentiment. Thanks for doing that. I know its not easy to part with ammo for some, but I would want my friends to have some training too.Comment

Yeah, 10x sounds like hyperbole. Ammo would get sold almost the minute it hit the market, even at extremely high prices, which hasn't happened. .22 was unfindable for awhile.Comment

LOTTA over-priced ammo on Armslist
, but NOT in shops, or even on-line. Actually, there's some decent 5.56 prices here in the marketplace - better than MY local Armslist has!
I DID manage to find some M856 at a buck a round
this weekend.
Rd.#6 in ALL my business mags, is a tracer. That way, should I hit it in a firefight, I know I have a mag change coming SOON.
But with a case of a thousand rounds of M193, that's not EVEN two boxes of M856 that I'll use with it. I don't need a LOT, but I MIGHT need some more, someday. 100rds. gives me a hundred more mags (3,000 rds.) of coverage.

On Armslist, 1 out of 2 sellers are price gougers, 1 out 2 are scammers, or 1 out of 2 are looking to sell or buy guns without ffl.LOTTA over-priced ammo on Armslist

So in all, you have 50% chance to get screwed.
You have a good 1 in 100 chance to find that deal you're looking for though.

Pretty sure the rep is basing on dealer/wholesaler orders of magnitude. I believe them; very little of anything has instant recoverable value anymore...notably used car values have jacked up so much that newer basic (but good) vehicles like toyota corollas no one is dealing on anymore. Beyond that you can smell and see the inflation, especially on food, and general stagflation driving up anything with inherent value.
Ammo is like pm's and this espisode in our nation's history is making folks do things they havent done in decades. Case in point...my relative living in a good area bought a new M&P and he hasnt done anything like that in over 20 years. Said he "didnt trust" taking his .45 into a fight. Other relative bought a dog.
There is real fear out there.
Now times all this by 10's of thousands of ppl across the usa.
Beyond this, do you REALLY think the dems will concede to a Trump victory? There will be massive civil unrest at least into the new year. And then....what comes after 2024?
I dont expect to see ammo casually on the shelves of any LGS for years. Plan accordingly.....this will not resolve into the new yearComment
