CFARS - How long is the gun release process ?

It's been over 30 days since I submitted a CFARS application to have law enforcement release my pistol after it was recovered (stolen).

How long does this usually take ? Every time I log in, the status is in progress

I believe you need to contact the LE agency that has the gun.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Last I heard the legr is taking 3-6 months to process. Once you have the letter you can setup an appt with the Leo dept holding the gun. This is per the Riverside sherif office in Elsinore that I picked up a few guns from for a gentleman that had already been waiting 5 months for the legr letter.

Yup it's the legr that I'm waiting for. Then I can call the PD and make an appointment to pick up from the evidence room. Ok 3-6 months setting my expectations.

The PD told me this is the first ever stolen gun they have dealt with so they too are not aware of the process.

Do you just apply on CFARS or do you print it out and mail it in ?

Is the gun registered to you and entered in AFS in your name?

If not, even with a LEGR the cops won't let you have it.

I filled out the application online. They waive the fee if you filed a police report and upload it.
