    Please advise a visa-holder about recreational shooting options

    Hello fellow gun-enthusiasts; sorry if my question is in the wrong place; i am a newbie here

    I am a european visiting relatives in california (alameda county); Both myself and people i visit love guns and recreational shooting; they have a very nice assortemnt avilable; Unfortunately options like livermore rod & gun club or similar places require me to have green card/state permit etc to allow to go shooting with them;
    I have read about shooting on public lands, but i did not managed to google any details;
    I was wondering, with all the fires, covid, etc - is there a place that we can all drive to (like a piece of desert) to shoot in california? in the 100 miles radius of alameda county?

    help & advice is greatly appreciated as things seem so different in usa & california for me! thx

    Many years ago i took family from Asia to Los Altos Rod and Gun Club Range and no issues from them (all were over 18)

    In socal took friends from overseas to Angeles range, also no issues

    Not sure if public land allows shooting due to fire hazards

    Check and call around to indoor ranges too. Most just take the passport info for identification.

      It would generally be illegal.

      An alien admitted to the United States under a nonimmigrant visa is prohibited from shipping, transporting, receiving, or possessing a firearm or ammunition unless the alien falls within one of the exceptions provided in 18 U.S.C. 922(y)(2), such as: a valid hunting license or permit, admitted for lawful hunting or sporting purposes, certain official representatives of a foreign government, or a foreign law enforcement officer of a friendly foreign government entering the United States on official law enforcement business.

      [18 U.S.C. 922(g)(5)(B) and 922(y)(2); 27 CFR 478.11 and 478.32
      In case it wasn't obvious, nothing I write here should be interpreted as legal advice.

        Just get a hunting license, it's easy.

          As already mentioned, some indoor places allow visitors to the country to shoot. All is needed is a passport.

          Two years back I brought a friend visiting from Singapore to shoot at FT3. Passport was good to go...

          I also brought some uncles visiting from Asia to OC Indoor to shoot, also on a passport.

          I have seen visitors shoot, too, at LPFR in the City of Industry just with a passport.

          In Las Vegas, you are definitely MOST welcome in the shooting ranges with just your passport and $$$.

          And as already mentioned - your only concern would be "purchasing" and/or "ownership" / "possession."

              I took college students from Korea to Sacramento Valley Shooting Center, https://www.sacvalley.org/ Call them and see if they have changed their policy. You can also make a day of it and rive up to Yuba or Oroville for some unsupervised range fun. Weekends are always busy, plan for during the week. Oroville has a whole day cleaning once a month though so be careful.

                Drive to Vegas...many ranges cater to tourists and you can even rent full auto rifles
