BLM Restricting Shooting in Sierra Nevada Foothills

Due to fire danger level. Camp fires also restricted.

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. – The Bureau of Land Management Mother Lode Field Office is increasing fire restrictions and temporary target shooting limitations for BLM-managed public lands in the Sierra Nevada foothills effective Aug. 27, due to high fire danger. These seasonal restrictions are in addition to the year-round statewide fire prevention order, issued on April 28, and the initial fire restrictions issued by the Mother Lode Field Office on May 29, which will remain in effect until further notice. The BLM-managed public lands affected by these fire restrictions are primarily located in

Given that it's drier than a popcorn fart up here in the Foothills, the restrictions make sense.

I was up near Sonora Pass earlier in the month and was able to shoot on USFS land with no issues. This was at an elevation of 9000 feet.

It was already much drier up there this year than the same time last year due to weaker snow pack, even the creeks have much less flow than last year.

Stanislaus and Humbodt-Toyabe NF's have forest-wide camp fire restrictions. Check before you go to see what is legal, and what is not.

The first time I saw BLM written on car windows I was wondering what did the BLM do or why there is suddenly such an interest in public lands......

I think the BLM should sue the BLM for copyright infringements on the name

I didn't see Kern County include in effected areas.
I'll call first before we head up to the desert this weekend.
          Thanks!

Shooting on BLM is coming to an end sooner or later. It just a sad fact.

Yep. With the increasingly difficult political climate, and with so many places being absolutely trashed, it's just a matter of time. Sad but true, and while blame will get tossed around every which way, shooters need just look in the mirror. After all the outdoor ranges are closed due to noise, indoor ranges are closed due to lead, or both are closed due to some fire code BS or some casing found over a hill, and then BLM is closed to shooting... what then?

Fire restrictions everywhere right now. Tahoe basin just banned ALL fires, everywhere. No bbqing in your backyard included.

I just shoot in my backyard. Realistically shooting on private property is the only option.

Most of the Tahoe crews got sent out to the big fires on the coast. No response teams left. They came to a multi-agency agreement on both sides of the border, so no wood or charcoal fires, and gas fires prohibited on red flag days.
