Yeah, anyone with doubts as to the efficacy of the 223/556 round doesn't have to look far. Sure, 7.62 and 00 buck have a higher one shot stop %, but also weigh more and have a lot more recoil. 5.56 weighs the same as 9mm. The wounding potential of the round is in its ability to fragment while still at high velocities.

As for Kyle, I think the road to hell is paved with good intentions. According to video from earlier in the night, it seems his intent was to give first aid to anyone in need and protect businesses. The subsequent charging with 2 counts of 1st degree homicide and 1 count of attempted 1st degree homicide is pure BS. The fact that he was illegally carrying the rifle (misdemeanor) has nothing to do with the fact that he was protecting himself and went well beyond attempting to retreat. Had he stood his ground a little more effectively and kept them at a distance, he might not have had to shoot. Staring someone down with a rifle can be an effective deterrent.

Lessons learned (at least for myself):
#1 Stupid places, stupid times, stupid people, stupid things. Don't go. Most of us know this, but it still applies.

#2 If you must go to stupid places, go in packs. The mob won't directly attack large groups of armed people. If they do, you're in a group and have a huge advantage. I would say that if had a very good reason to be at a stupid place, no fewer than 4 competent armed people.

#3 If you're alone in a stupid place, conceal your weapon and blend in. Grab a brick and yell stupid antifa slogans if you must until you can get out of there. His rifle and appearance made him a target. Can you look like a scumbag if you have to? Concealable body armor, black hoodie, good holster, etc.

They better wait until the first blizzard of the winter season before they cut the cops and kid loose.

      Riots in blizzards are rare.

What ammo was used? An important detail.

I am not disagreeing with you on the "4 S Rule" as I call it, but thinking more philosophically. Time often gives context.

For instance I think many of the people who were pivotal in this country's founding would have been considered at the time to be violating the "4 S Rule". For example, Crispus Attucks, who was the first person killed during the Revolutionary War at the Boston Massacre. At the time I expect I would have thought the "4 S's" applied while now I consider him a heroic martyr of the American Revolution.

Yeah but we're not at that point. There's troublemakers on both sides right now, but not much beyond that. Had he been killed, he would have been a footnote in the news and forgotten by all but his family in a matter of days. Not something worth sacrificing your life for.

As bad as it seems right now, we're not even close to something like civil war.

I think that remains to be seen. Kyle Rittenhouse could ultimately be looked at as a footnote in the history of 2020, or a pivotal person in history at this time. "In other words, 2020 ain't over yet..."

Not sure if this has been posted yet on Calguns, but someone at AR15.com did probably the west write-up of this event I've read so far- https://www.ar15.com/forums/General/...ive/5-2362796/

Something to ponder- There's debate on whether or not this kid had to clear a type 1 or 2 malfunction when he was on the ground... If he did, that's some freakin' skill!

Why isnt the media and the BLM all over the bald guy for using racial slurs when he obviously isn't in that category. He gets a pass because he's dead?

This is a good video with actual legal opinions from a lawyer who practiced in Wisconsin. They cover quite a bit of the standard argument against Rittenhouse.

Edit to add: I just noticed that the filter blocked the name of the site. It is bit chute of course.

Agree on #1 if you feel like you need a weapon to attend a protest , Stay home! remember No One will have your back and if you do end up having to defend yourself it will be costly regardless how justified it is.

Especially stay home if your a white guy bringing a weapon to a BLM protest.
