    Stupid Rangemaster Rules

Went to the range today. Been going there for years and one of the rangemasters was a complete idiot.

He wanted the safety ON when I was away from the rifle. Mag was out and bolt was back. I asked what do you do with 1911s when the mag is out and the slide is back. No response. MORON

then later this idiot wanted me to be to the side of my rifle because the butt of my rifle was a few inches behind the back of the bench. So he did NOT want me straight behind the rifle to manage recoil. IDIOT

Another rangemaster put him in his place after I explained. What a moron.

What range? Yes power trip. I was yelled at for cutting a corner to assess target at cease fire. I cut the yellow line by 6". When I returned he was on his phone the whole time during cease fire while we were down range. Good thing nobody grabbed a fire arm while we were at our targets. USI has been somthing else.

We've all experienced something similar. Every negative experience I've had was with a range master that was clearly post retirement age. I'm in my late 30s now but I've noticed I get hassled less when I shoot my revolver with hand loads as opposed to the AR or the 1911. For my case I think that because there is no shortage of idiots these older range masters do not give the benefit of the doubt and just treat everyone like their noobs.

Short bus or not, they are the range master. You are not.

Being a Johnson and comparing a rifle to a 1911 isn't a slick way to look smart. If you actually said that to the RM, I can see where the real problem is.

Been hassled for std mags and RAW as the RO that is a kid had no idea of the law or what an RAW was. Had another doof require the detachable mag be removed from a bolt action, yet std floor plate magazines from bolt rifles were not required to flip open the mag, makes no sense. Now if I go to a public range I drive further to a place that pretty much leaves you to self police the line.

The only thing that is worse than an idiot, is someone who argues with one.

You're not the range master in question, are you?

Properly run ranges have a set of published rules called "Standard Operating Procedure". The SOP at each range should be somewhat different in order to take in unique features of each range. A quick example is some ranges do not allow steel jacketed ammo for fear of starting a grass or brush fire, other ranges don't have that issue and so steel is allowed. Next time something like that happens ask if the range SOP covers that issue? You'll know by his/her reaction to the question. Many (most) ranges have their rules on the range web site, check them out first so you understand what you are questioning.

FIFY. I've heard other RO's say that. I have no idea how long a long second is other than it is less than 2 seconds

As someone who at this stage in life uses mostly manually operated repeaters, I still think a rule like that is asinine.
Our club range has signage stating that full-auto fire is authorized, provided that the user has the necessary credentials.
