What is the quietest sub-$300 pellet gun that's generally available?

I have a Gamo Varmint rifle but it's loud.

Any other suggestions on the same general league?

Gamo makes a Silent Cat that's about half as quite as their regular cats and still does 1200fps.

You may get more (informed) replies if you post this over in the airgun forum. Lots of options....
However, if you visit Pyramid Air or Airgun Depot, they will list the "loudness" of the rifle in the "specs" section. Hope this helps. Good liuck

Springer air rifles are loud. You have a springer.

            A .177 is louder than a .22. You have a .177.

Nitro Piston's and PCP's are more quiet than a springer. Get a .22 and choose heavier pellets to keep your velocity at or below 1,000 fps.

Online retailers often post how loud or quiet a given gun is on a 1 to 5 scale. It's a somewhat useful tool.

                Benjamin Nitro Piston.
No spring noise which can be louder than the muzzle discharge.
We shot five garden variety guns for a sound check just by ear.
                Loudest to quietest:
                Gamo Wild Cat .177 springer
Gamo Whisper .177 springer (quieter at the muzzle than the Cat)
                Beeman .20 springer
                Benjamin NP .177
                Benjamin NP .22

The Benjamins have a moderator, same exit hole size for .177 and .22 so the .22 is quieter.

The Sig MPX is fairly quiet. Getting Co2 for it is a little hard nowadays. But Bass Pro pops up with some every couple of weeks.

Silencers are called "moderators" when on air guns.
As long as it is part of the barrel / can't be removed and put on another gun, the moderator is legal.
Some air guns like the Gamo Whisper have plastic baffles inside so even one real gun shot would destroy it.
Have no fear, if it is sold on an air gun at Big 5 or other store, it is legal.

Air Guns of Arizona sells moderators that have internals made out of plastic and if fired with cartridge guns they would be destroyed. The ATF generally does not talk about moderators on airguns because they only regulate firearms. A 22lr has about 130 foot pounds of energy, A pellet rifle in 22 caliber will struggle to get to 40 foot pounds of energy and most are in the high 20s. A 22lr is vastly more powerful than most airguns.

Check out this great deal on the Diana Stormrider Gen2, Synthetic, .22 Caliber. Need advice? Let our airgun specialists help you today!

Probably one of these. Could reach out to MAC1 airguns and see if Tim's got one in stock.

You could also look into the QB chief or see if Tim's got one as he designed the QB series. He's also got a moderator design that's permanently attached to the barrel...
