A FFL has no way to know if you are bringing in a reg'd AW or not. Bullet button is going to raise red flags everywhere. Do not install a BB especially on a featured lower unless you want hassles galore.
You can transfer a bare lower or completed lower but transferring a completed, featured lower is going to be subject to the whims of the FFL. My advice if you want a hassle free transfer and you do not know of a good, smart FFL to use - would be to strip the lower of all but maybe the bolt release and trigger guard, and the buffer tube and buffer detent is probably fine too.Last edited by SkyHawk; 08-16-2020, 8:14 PM. -

Just to prevent confusion....
If you bring a lower. Just keep it in featureless configuration. No pistol grip attached, no collapsible stock buffer tube. Put all parts in a bag small parts in another bag inside the larger bag.
Don’t want to wind up like another forum member where the FFL confuses it for an AW and surrenders it to LE.Comment

^^^ Yep
Read this recent thread if you want to see just how sideways things can go when a FFL freaks out over a BB

Sell the lower as a firearm. Sell the upper as parts.sigpic

I was planning on separating the upper from the lower prior to sale if that changes anything ??sigpic

No - unless the lower is pretty bare you may have issues, but it will be completely FFL dependent. And no matter what, no BB not even on a bare lower.
So unless you know the FFL or you know their policies around built lower transfers, the surest way to go is to make it as bare as possible.
I would only leave this attached:
pivot pin with detent and spring
trigger guard
bolt catch assembly
and maybe (but only if the castle nut is staked):
buffer tube and castle nut and plate and buffer detent assembly, with takedown pin and detent assembly
From that, it would only take 5 minutes or less to put in the rest of the parts and have a fully built AR lower again after the transfer is done.Last edited by SkyHawk; 08-17-2020, 9:45 PM.Comment

Perhaps, but could be a waste of money unless you knew that is exactly what the buyer wanted. Thanks Skyhawk, very thorough, would installing one of these alleviate all this mess? https://jtactical.com/products/ca-co...ar-alternativeLast edited by SkyHawk; 08-16-2020, 9:34 PM.Comment

I’ll chat with the buyer, if it’s his preference, will that alleviate all these issues ?sigpic

It all depends how knowledgeable your FFL is. I sold and dros a complete lower (adjustable stock) no problems and gave buyer the upper. Buyer will decide featureless or maglock once in his name. You goto an FFL who lacks gun laws then you'll end up at his/her mercy.Comment

Thanks, kinda what I figured, I have a ffl I like and trust, I’ll ask what his preference is. Just hard to fallow all these damn rules !!!sigpic
