A lot of these types of posts contain a variation of "prices should be $___" but I always wonder what makes them so special that they get to decide what prices should be. They make it very clear that they would never buy at current high prices, and condemn any sellers asking for current high prices so presumably they aren't selling either.

So again, a person who is neither a buyer nor a seller, wants to determine what prices "should be". hmmm. If others can play that game, I want to say that OP's AR that he's trying to sell should be only $1800, and that he's just gouging at $3000.

I’m not about jacking up the price but the time we’re in and the market being what it is makes for a perfect storm of supply and demand. I feel for the new guys and those who just didn’t have the means to stock up while prices and availability were better than today. Then there’s those who had their shot and are just now trying to get a last minute thing going on, please learn from this...everyone!

It is called supply and demand. This is a very basic economic concept, but it seems like people are still having a difficult time understanding it. Here is a link to a detailed explanation:

Private sellers of ammo on Calguns do not have a monopoly on the ammo market and if someone wants to overpay for ammo that is on them. This is not the only place to buy ammo. I suggest those having trouble finding ammo locally look into getting a FFL03/COE so that they can buy online. That is what I did early on in the shelter in place and it is easy if you are capable of following directions. I believe there is a tutorial somewhere on this forum. When I did this, I googled something like "COE/FFL buy ammo online" and followed instructions.

Yeah i was wondering everyone is doubling the price of a ammo box of 762 x 39 which is 12.00 when it should be 6.00/ 50 round 9mm is 50.00 when it should be 25.00 , just wondering i saw a lot of cal gunner crying and leaving really bad pm to other cal gunner when the china virus started in march 15 2020 . I remember they were threats where other cal gunner were going to report them to city official so what is happing now with the ammo , i don't see them posting anything lol lmao . what happen lol

You can sell your own ammo at whatever price people are willing to pay.
Businesses are suppose to not price gouge. But if their distributors increase their price it rolls down the chain.

Price gouging on necessary items by businesses and in some states even private parties for items such as food and water - or plywood in a hurricane is a crime. Ammo is not a necessity of life therefore free game for the American way of life and marketing.

No kidding, It's a peeve with me, people thinking any sort of too-high (to them) price of, as you mention a non-essential item, equates to gouging.

Some maroon wants to offer up their battered G19 for $3000, that's their call. Won't inspire much action on their sale, but not gouging.

CTD wants to list middle of the road brand 9mm/FMJ/124g/50rd boxes for $75, stupid business model but not gouging.
