Doubling up hearing protection for bullpups

Since the actions is right next to my ear should I use muff in addition to my custom plugs? This is for a 5.56 MDR but the same question applies to the AUG, etc.

I didn't have to but your mileage may differ. X95 Tavor.

I'd suggest double regardless of gun. Although I think most of the noise actually comes from the muzzle not the action. But that might be because I have loud brakes on some of my guns.

If you can tell the difference between six inches away and sixteen inches away you haven't been shooting enough.

My 38 snub is actually pretty loud compared to my comped guns when standing behind it. I know the rifles are louder cause you can see the sound impact the ground when shooting. Not as cool as a 50BMG but still.

              In general, always double up

Muffs protect the bones around your ear... better than plugs.

              If indoors- definitely wear both
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
              (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

Doubling up is a good idea, muffs aren't always sealed on your ears as you move your head around.

As a test, put your muffs on while vacuuming or something similarly loud. You'll probably hear the seal breaking a bit as you move about.

It's cheaper and easier to protect your hearing than fix it later, same for eye pro.

Doubling up is never a bad idea but i have a tavor and it didnt seem louder than a typical ar15.

This a question that should answer itself. Hearing is subjective due to each persons ability to hear certain frequencies.

Try both and land on the one that works best.

I've shot my Keltec rfb with surfire plugs or full headset with good seals.

*Swap the brake for a compensator to get your min OAL and go shoot.

                      Install a linear compensator.
