Will a gen 5 g19 work with gen4 g23 barrel? Are there after market .40 cal barrels that work with a gen 5 g19.?

You will also need to change the follower on your mags

Gen 5 barrels are not compatible with any previous gen and you can not go from a 9mm to a .40 S&W, only vice versa.

Yep, this. Unless you had a new .40 upper but they are not available for Gen5.
