    ar15 "mil spec" term

It seems to me the term "mil spec" is being abused on Calguns. I see people asking is this or that mil spec. My question is "do you know what you are asking?"

What ar15 receiver are not mil spec? And if it's not mil spec then what other spec are out there?

AFAIK, no AR15 receiver is actually mil-spec. The mil-spec is for M-16/M-4 receivers. Since AR15 receivers do not have all the required mil-spec machining, to prevent full-auto, they can't be called mil-spec. Now, they may be mostly mil-spec, but can't be called mil-spec.

      Excluding receivers...

Rock River Arms and some other manufacturers use a "commercial" spec buffer tube. People probably ask so they know which Magpul stock to order since they sell them for both mil spec & commercial tubes.

Mil spec tubes didn't exist until Magpul made it.

        I'm talking about receivers, btw.

Those are mil-spec, but have problems due to poor qc.

Like I said the term mil spec is being abused by calgunners.

Let us hope our weapons are never needed --but do not forget what the common people knew when they demanded the Bill of Rights: An armed citizenry is the first defense, the best defense, and the final defense against tyranny. If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military, the hired servants of our rulers. Only the government -- and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws."

I agree Mil-Spec is not being used correctly. I read an article not too long ago that explained the difference between Mil-Spec and Mil-Std. From what i understood, Mil-Std applies more appropriately to the goods that most of us can get our hands on. But since the term is so widely used, I got with what people recognize. Oh well.

Mil-spec and billet. Ah yes, terms abused often by writers then leading to the general public.....

There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.

mil-spec( military specification) every part used by the military has a mil-spec# including the pen they write with. the part must meet those specification in everyway .this done because of various manufactures making the same parts so they have interchangeability . so if a ar receiver clams mil-spec it must meet the specifications or its a fraudulent clam.
