    Backyard shooting laws Other states

Curious to know about other states with no restrictions on shooting on private property. For example, I read in TN if you own over 70 acres you can shoot on your own property, some counties with less lands.

What do you know about some other states with such regulations, or lack of.

I have five acres in Tennessee and we shoot there all the time, from .22 all the way up to .458 Win Mag. Just don't shoot the neighbor's cow. In the county, zoned A2. You can't do it in city limits like on Johnson City or Bristol... but county property, no problem. Everyone shoots.

Yep. It's not uncommon at all, but almost universally you'll need to be clear of city limits. I have friends in Lucerne Valley, CA that shoot on their 40 acres. In Washington country TN I think you have to be 100 yards from an inhabited structure or something like that. Obviously safety and courtesy comes into play, we don't shoot on Sunday morning at 7am or anything but if you don't shoot at least once in a while you're the oddball near my house.

What county is that? Are you familiar with the area? Any recommendation on where to buy? Not just shooting, but nature wise.

People in my neighborhood shoot in their backyards. Technically it is illegal but in the 2 years I've lived here the sheriff has never put in an appearance. They have a backstop and thick woods behind them. I have house behind me, so no backyard shooting

Washington Country, TN. Am I familiar with it? I own a house there that I bought in February. N/E part of the state in the Appalachian foothills and not far from Virginia, NC, and KY.

As far as where to buy, well like a lot of places prices are going up, but you can still find nice places there for far less than CA in most parts of the state. I personally like the eastern side because it's hilly and a little less humid. Four seasons, low prices on most things. I'd personally stay away from the bigger cities, but that's just me. ANYWHERE in TN is going to be better than CA for most things. Don't get me wrong, I love California but I just can't handle the liberalism, taxes, and nutcase regulations, and of course the terrible gun laws. My house is 2,000 sq ft on five acres in farm country, end of a road with zero traffic and $200,000. Property taxes are $700 a year, vehicle registration is $29.

Nature, well so far on my property I have seen deer, wild turkeys, raccoons, coyotes, rabbits and squirrels of course, beautiful cardinals and song birds, hawks, vultures... My neighbors tell me we have foxes but I haven't seen one yet. I saw a bear on another close by property.

+1. In the county I lived in (San Juan) you could shoot on your property. There was no acreage requirement.

Sac County is a no. Not even legal for pellet guns or paintball. Regs say no projectiles.
On the firing line- depending on the day, determines which side of the line I'm supposed to stand on!
