    Glock slide removal tip advice

I owned a couple of Glocks (great guns btw). For the life of me every time I attempt to remove the slide for cleaning or inspection or etc. I'm having the hardest time completing a basic function which is the removal of the slide.

I know the concept and I've done it previously and folks on Youtube makes it seems so simple.

My question is any other members having a hard time with their Glocks? Or I'm just lacking in elbow grease?

I have Sigs and other pistol brands with the "lever" setup and it is much easier to complete the same function.

Any tips? I don't discount the fact that I've been doing it all wrong.

Just do it over something soft like a towel or those fancy wetsuit gun mats so if you drop the slide it won't hurt nothin

The extended slide lock lever does help, it's worth the $10 price.

Try holding the slide back with your weak hand (usually left) and press down on the takedown levers with your dominant hand (usually right).

I find this makes it much easier for me to field strip.

As others have said the extended slide lock lever helps quite a bit. I put it on all three of my Glocks and I would do the same if I bought another one. It's easy to do but watch a couple of videos first.

Practice I guess. It's the easiest take down pistol I've ever known.

With the strong hand put the thumb under the back of the tang on the rear of the frame, with the rest of the strong hand grip the rear of the slide and pull it back a little to release the pressure off the slide lock.

Now, with the weak hand pull down and HOLD DOWN the slide lock and let the slide go forward of the lock, and then it will just come right off.
Before there was Polymer there was Accuracy.

Yes, those are the basic steps for removing the slide but the stock slide lock lever is almost flush. It is very easy for one side or the other to slip out from under your thumb or index finger. The extended lever is cheap, easy to install and has never slipped out from under my fingers. It works first time every time.

My friend replaced the takedown tab to an extended one, some people have different fingers I guess. I have to admit, sometimes it takes a few tries for me too but I've only had my 19 for a few months and have never cleaned it.
Maybe on some guns, that leaf spring is just extra stiff.

I found it a major pain, on my Glock 19... could never seem to get a grip on the take down tabs!

As others have mentioned, you can purchase extended take down tabs from Glockstore and other places for something like $12... once I purchased an extended take down tab, and replaced it, it has been easy peezy ever since!

YouTube have simple videos of how to exchange the take down tab! Worth a try!
