Great experience at Imbert & Smithers + Coyote Point Armory

Just want to say I had Great experiences at Imbert & Smithers + Coyote Point Armory. Both shops the staff were super friendly and helpful when I stopped in the other day. I'm new to the sport and they both answered questions I had and gave me good advice on some purchases I was looking to make.

Imbert & Smithers works off of appointments so you don't have to wait in a crazy line to get in. They have 9mm FMJ ammo in stock too.

CPA does not do appointments but they do do PPTs right now so definitely a good resource for private sales. They had a couple ARs and pistols in there but no ammo unless you are buying a gun too.

I just wanted to put the good word in for these two ships since they both treated me right.

They want to bask in the moment while newbs are willing to; 'pay the Crisco surcharge' and lay down 1K$ for a gen 3 G19. Enjoy this fleeting moment while you can folks. You'll pay a significant price later, for your fat profitability now.

I had a store on Market St in SF for some years. I'm a 'support the locals' guy. Accordingly, I do not do or say this lightly. This is a point of principal to me. Based on my experiences with the attitude of both of these folks after dealing with I&S for fifteen years, f' them man.

Enjoy gouging the greenhorns while you can. Because in so doing, you've driven a lot of your regulars away. From one of the many folks that have supported you for many years; f*** you both. Got no time for anyone of the folks that have supported bricks over clicks, and happily, willingly paid a fair mount more money to do that, because we knowingly, willingly and with full intention paid more money than we needed to in order to support our LGS's, and are now being turned away for PPT's, f**k you both.

      Lesson learned.

Once the greenhorns figure out the extent to which you've f'ed them, good luck getting all the folks you gouged for $1K for a gen 3 G19 to support you a couple of years from now. The regulars, the folks that for years and years happily paid twenty to forty percent more for, basically everything because, to some of us, it meant a lot to us to support the LGS's, in your case, lesson leaned.

Thank you for showing your true colors, FOAD.

ok so where do you spend your money now?

Ugimports in Fremont, 29outdoor in American Canyon are the Bay Area stores deserving of support.

Coyote Point Armory is my go-to shop, are great folks that are dealing with the chaos as best as possible. They are doing PPT's, by appointment, which beats the hell out of standing in a line for hours on end. Imbert Smithers are in the same boat, good folks too. I prefer CPA, but definitely recommend either. Try not to get so butthurt when things don't go your way, it's not personal, it's business...

Last time I called coyote point armory about a PPT, they told me I could come wait in line but they would bump me in favor of any other customer who arrived after who wasn't a PPT. Therefore, they finished, I was welcome to come wait in line but there wasn't any real hope of getting it done.

I'm glad to hear their position has changed. I'm also sympathetic to them making less money per transaction on ppts than if someone comes in and buys a new firearm. Given I'd spent a couple hundred dollars that week on ammo at coyote point armory however, I'm not in any rush to give them any more of my business. It's not my first negative experience with coyote point armory, but it's likely my last. That's not doing their best, that's personally impacting their customers in a negative manner.

Doing ppts isn't something a good shop should do when they have time, it's part of their job. If they want to grow the base of customers, they have to actually support those customers needs. I've seen so much crying from various local gun shop owners about 2a, and how the state is such a meanie. Funny how when it's their money, it's not where their mouths are.

Imbert and smithers by contrast just offered terrible advice ("need at least a 300 win mag for black tail, 308 won't get it done" being a more egregious example, evidently deer are rocking body armor these days), and unprofessionalism (employees screaming out to the store "time to get the **** out of here" 20 minutes before closing for instance). I still occasionally pick something up there now and again, if they'd bother to answer their phone regularly I'd probably do so more often.

I am just not getting the not doing the PPT's

Now I haven't ventured into a gun store during this pandemic ,but if what I am hearing is true then there aren't guns to buy. So you would think that if PPT's generate even a small amount of income it is better than no income.

                What am I missing here.

CPA is a great store, lots of knowledge and good hunting stories. Staff rocks! SFA, just keep shopping in San Franschithole.

Imbert and smithers illegally turned me away from a ppt treating a long gun as a pistol and requiring extra paperwork for the ppt. They are scum bags of the highest order. It's really a shame we have so few respectable ffls I know it's a pain to do business here but you advocated for ppt you gotta do em. None of us wanted this you thought it would bring customers to your store and now the paperwork isn't worth it to you. Too bad. Lying about safe room is another cop out to Get out of ppt. I have no sympathy for these liars and opportunists.

This whole PPT issue was created entirely by democrats. Just like the roster, it is another avenue to eventually abolish the 2A in California, with influence beyond. It’s all working out entirely as intended. Make it another paper blizzard for all involved, without fair compensation for those saddled with doing it.
And to see that some here openly support those who have done this to us. Shameful.

Regardless of what your politics are, both of the named FFLs seem to be acting in bad faith and SFArchitect is right, this may very well bite both of them in the rear end when this is over. Times are tough but most FFLs are making the best of it without resorting to that sort of behavior.

Bottom line is we need more gun shops in Ca especially in anti gun areas like the Bay Area! If you don’t like a shop spend your money somewhere else pretty simple to me, but don’t complain if someone does like a shop or store!

For the ppts it’s kinda funny people always complain about certain stores policy regarding ppts and how they have to do them by law ect and how there going to call the ATF/DOJ to complain! It’s almost like those people would rather see more shops close or be reprimanded? Yet they still want to call them self pro gun!

The people who are complaining about the ppt issue should open a ppt only store! You would make a killing and could run your shop he shop how ever you see fit!

On a side note I have never bought anything from either of these stores but still wish them the best in anti gun Ca!

Bought a 1911 from Coyote Point at a very fair price. They were great to deal with
