If you're in the AFS already a minute or two. Not sure if you're first time buyer.

Not even a minute. As soon as they input your info into comp, it comes up.

You’ll spend more time looking for ammo then purchasing it. It’s actually a minute or two since most places are getting use to it, though it was a pain in the @ss when this first started.

Did one this morning, about 90 seconds and that included chit-chat with the counterguy and me asking a few questions about the store's gunsmithing operation

It also depends on the line for ammo and then the competence of the person behind the counter when it comes time to filling out the paperwork. Add more time for each extra caliber you are picking up...

                  1. Treat all guns as if loaded (even when you know they aren't).
                  2. Never point the muzzle at anything you aren't willing to destroy.
                  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target.
                  4. Know your target and what is beyond it (avoid all collateral damage).

I have bought ammunition one time since this crazy background check went into place. Fortunately I planned ahead.

I was in line at Phillip's a few hrs ago, a couple guys in front of me bought ammo, I didn't notice any delay. The line moved normally.

Usually only 1-5 minutes on average.

Buying one caliber is a cinch, but multiple calibers is more annoying, because they have to input caliber and number of rounds.
