Current Environment at Angeles Shooting ranges?

I'm curious as to what folks have experienced at the Angeles ranges recently? Got an Aimpoint Micro back from service for my mini 14 and I need to re-zero. I haven't been up there in a while and am wondering what it's like up there with all the newbies running around?

Alternately, does anyone have any thoughts on Oaktree these days?

Lots of young ROs, follow the rules and they won't try flexing their muscle, if it's just to sight something in you should be g2g.

Angeles SR is business as usual.

Business like normal, but half the benches are closed to keep distance so expect more of a wait than normal if going during busy times.

Have been going on Wednesday's or Thursday's around 10am with son in law. Sign up line 4 - 5 shooters so wait is only a few minutes. On the pistol side had no problem finding a bench or metallic targets spot. Did not pay much attention to rifle side so no comment.

Went a couple weekends ago; Saturday right around 8am.

Time-wise:
- Took us a few minutes to get in the door with a temperature check (maybe 5-6 people in front of us) and entry fee/ammo purchase was quick. They've also cut their main building in half and only have 2 registers open. Left side register only doing entry fees and right side register does entry fees & ammo purchases. So if you're buying ammo then you may be subjected to a longer line. When my buddy and I came out the main building, the line was probably 2-3 times longer.
- No wait for a spot by the pistol steel targets, but looked like the rifle benches were mostly filled up. Once we were done (around 10), there was a wait for pretty much every spot at the range. People would just pick a lane they felt would clear up soon and just waited for those folks to finish. Obviously at that point your wait time depends on how well you chose a group to wait behind and how quickly they wrap up.

People-wise:
- Surprisingly only time I've ever been at Angeles and haven't heard RO's yell at anyone.
- The shooters closest to me definitely were experienced and from a quick glance further along in either direction it didn't seem like there were any obviously inexperienced shooters/first-time gun owners running around.

Overall pretty good experience despite COVID restrictions. Only thing that sucks is wearing a mask while standing in the sun and having your eye protection fog up while trying to aim.

Would definitely recommend getting there at 8am or earlier on a weekend to make sure you minimize wait times and can get a spot on the range immediately.

ASR

Rifle side: same as before except for reduced benches, targets offered outside, and masks.

Pistol side: seems more crowded than rifle side so I've been avoiding.

Oak Tree
Rifle range: aside from wearing a mask and some spacing in line, no real difference. You can sign up online ahead of time so no need to fill any forms.

There are like 3 rules at ASR. If you can't follow them, maybe you should be yelled at.

I've seen morons do the same **** over and over again and probably should've been kicked out.

Here's a tip. If you're going to the range for the first time, learn the rules of the range ahead of time. Just because Oak Tree wants you to put your rifle bag on the bench and unload, that's not how it's done at every range.

I've been to Oak Tree 3 time over the years and every time I go, I feel like it's a boys club and strangers aren't that welcome there. The set up is very fragmented where the hand guns are at one end and the long rifle at the other end, and not a simple walking distance. parking at the pro shop is a nightmare.

I would think they’re wouldn’t be too many noobs at the range these days with the ammo shortage and all. I’m sure they have new firearms to shoot but expendable ammo would be a different story. Just my thought. I need to get out to ASR. Haven’t been in a while.

We rode ATC's to our secret spot Friday night and plinked Glocks. No fees, rules or people.
