Do matching front & rear irons matter

Any of you guys piece together irons on your AR, or are you sure to get matching sights every time?

Most of the time, yes they match up. If there is a fixed front sight (ex. A2), almost every rear sight I've tried on it matched up for sighting in.

Nowadays it's easier to buy the set together as pricing is better than individual pricing

I use a MagPul flip up with the A2 on my DD with an Aim Point Pro in between.

I try to buy matching when needed. Half my rifles have a2 so I only get the rear in that case. Don't cheap out on buis

Matching height always matters with sights. So do pic rail gas blocks vs receiver rail height. Gotta start with an even plain.

Not matching for this 9mm build. With the rapid drop off of a 9mm I wanted to be able to quickly adjust elevation at the rear sight with a knob and not fart with the tool on the front sight. For a different 5.56 build that shoots flat I went with a matching set since I got a deal on ebay for set cheaper than single sight from major distributors.

If you are talking about something other than a A4 receiver with a flush handguard rail (like the pic below) then make you sure you understand the difference between an standard A2 Front sight (for fixed carry handle rear) vs an F Marked A2 sight (for removeable carry handle rear).

THIS. I run all Troy all the time. Mismatching brands will mean differences in elevation particularly that may not be reconcilable.

like others, i have an a2 front and because the eotech was hitting the deltaring, i got a rock river arms dominator mount with a rear adjustable sight. then i put my eotech on top.

i use troy sights also. i did try midwest industries also.

                      Troy can go to hell.

Accessory maker Troy Industries has had quite the week PR-wise. First they announced (since removed from their web site) the hiring of former Chicago police commissioner Jody Weis by their subsidiary, Troy Asymmetric. Yes, Troy intended to add an anti-RKBA Daly administration lackey who lost the confidence of his own department to their staff as ... Read more

I have a troy rear sight also. Their dioptic sight as I wanted to try something different.

If you mean matching heights then yes it matters.

If you mean matching brands then no it doesnt matter as long as both are in spec.

                            Size matters!

                            The AR is a Barbie

                            14 1/2”, 16”, 18”, 20” and 24” barrels

There are a few different distances between the front sight block and the rear

If you get a dissipator front sight and add it onto a **** sight radius gun, you might have issues.

Suggestion - get sights made from metal - designed for your size gas system and upper.
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
                            (thanks to Jeff Cooper)
