Large caliber doesn't necessarily mean magnum. I would buy a GP100 3" 44 spl in a heartbeat if I could find one. I think it would be as comfortable to shoot as my 4" S&W 625.

+2 with one that does 44 mags and specials. 44 specials are much nicer on the hands and ears.

I used to carry a .44 mag snubbie with .44spl carts. Recoil was less than a .357. Gun just got too heavy in warm weather and went to a pistol.

+3; .44 special equivalent loads in a .44 mag are among my favorites.

I would say most hit the gun safe and stay there. Not the most pleasant things to shoot

Snubby-anything is for the ease of carrying. There are practical limits on "how short makes sense," but you'll find that "how light makes sense" is a much more important question.

If you are not going to carry it, don't get a snubby. There is no reason to get something that will be less accurate and much harder to shoot just for the cool factor. Of course, if you collect or just want that type of a range toy, that's GTG - I have a bunch of small revolvers in calibers from .22 to .500 S&W Magnum and everything in between.

If you're looking for home defense and want .44 Magnum, you're on a good path being a reloader. You can pick the correct bullet and correct load for self defense. However, get a full size gun. Just my 2c, of course, you can get whatever you want...

SW 500 with a 4” barrel, feral hog sure wished I missed.

I have a 3" Smith Wesson 696 in 44 Special. It is a great handgun. I use it as my bed stand gun. The recoil is not too bad and they now make a good variety of 44 special defensive ammo. It is very accurate and I can shoot good groups at 25 yards, so it not just a 21 foot gun. I tuned the action and I have a 9lb DA pull that is very reliable.
