background checks different from state to state/nfa?

i picked general because i didn't know where to bring this up.
i have not been a ca resident for quite awhile so but hope this is the correct sub forum

i have lived in a lot of different states, florida/az/nv generally had straight forward background checks - no felony equal pass.
i recently read that nyc and nj are more stringent, like a weed bust can restrict you.

is it the same for nfa?

like, if you had a weed bust 30 yrs ago in a different state
and you have a current ccw and buy guns regularly - could you fubar it by getting an nfa in az/nv/fl?

old guys like me did things in the seventies not thinking about how weird the future would be

NFA checks are done by FBI so it doesn't matter what state you're in. If you're worried the weed bust was a felony, you prob wouldn't have passed the ccw background check. I would think ordinary NICS checks would find it also.

We use ye olde phone-it-in NICS check in PA, although you hafta fill out separate state paperwork for a firearm purchase, in addition to the 4473 for the feds.

I presume dope busts get picked up, but having never been busted for anything, I couldn't say.

oh, yeah, i have a ccw and nope, no felonies - i was mainly curious if NFA backgrounds had different criteria - i had arrest for , like a joint or two in the seventies also getting drunk and fistfights , like every real american kid would in the seventies - but nothing even close to felonies .
Would NFA say "no"?
I want a short barrel rifle, not an ar pistol - which is legal with NFA paperwork in AZ/NV
