Isn't the whole point behind a 80% lower to not have it registered? Which doesn't apply to CA because you have to register/DROS it anyway. So i fell in love with the TNW asr and Im looking into getting the 80% since its half of the price of the full firearm. Also i want to buy my own ca compliant grip and dont want my mags “pinned” as they said on their website. I say that because there are only two versions of the ASR. The free states version, and the ca and ny version. On the ca compliant version they state that they make some changes including the pinned mags and other stuff. So to avoid having the nonsense thrown on my gun i wanted to build my own. However there is milling involved. So my question to you is how much does milling usually cost for dedicated ar9 lowers and if anyone has done a 80% build on the ASR then what was that like and how do you like it?

Maybe call them and see if they will send the lower to you local gun store and then just ship the upper to yourself? Make sure it is featureless before you slap it together.
What worries me is that the overall length is 29.5 when it is collapsed. But if you extend it and add a SI stock stop you should be fine. Not sure if that magwell could count as a second grip.
Edit: looks like they already make it featureless for you. So no pinned mags if you go with the fin and brake and fixed stock.

SOL That ship sailed years ago. Only an ffl with a mfg license can machine 80% for you. Or you can request serial number machine it then notify them then assemble. All work done by you on your own equipment.Last edited by edgerly779; 07-18-2020, 3:40 AM.Comment

Yeah its a felony for anyone to machine it for you, unless theyre a licensed firearm manufacturer who serializes it and dros's it to you. Just buy a stripped lower or complete gunRightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

Even IF you could get a licensed manufacturer to mill you one, you STILL have to make it CA compliant. So to avoid having the nonsense thrown on my gun i wanted to build my own. However there is milling involved. Why not just buy the CA compliant version again?
You can change it to featureless with an ugly grip, pin the stock and get rid of the flash suppressor and then legally unpin the magazine.Randall Rausch

Just because you build a gun yourself doesnt mean you can configure it much differently than one you purchase at an ffl.
All the same restrictions still apply.Comment

Ask same question again and still got a no. What a nummie. Even for a newbie.
