WSJ: Run on Guns - text copied into post below

OK, it's not news that there has been a run on guns and ammo. But the WSJ has a pretty balanced look at it in today's paper: https://www.wsj.com/articles/record-...ns-11594719000

Most interesting stats/ observations: as compared to past panics, new purchases overwhelmingly handguns, and a greater percentage of buyers are new shooters.

Buyers and gun store owners cite the coronavirus pandemic,George Floyd's killing and efforts to
          defund the police

MINNEAPOLIS-Americans are buying guns in record numbers.

The new coronavirus pandemic, civil unrest after the killing ge.E!Qy..d..and the ensuing movement
to defunct police are bringing in new buyers worried about their personal safety, according to
buyers, store owners and gun experts.

Gun sales began rising to unusual highs in March, as coronavirus cases began surging in the U.S.
and government-ordered lockdowns led to the highest unemployment levels since the Great
Depression. The Federal Bureau of Investigation processed 7.8 million background checks for gun
purchases from March to June, according to National Shooting Sports Foundation, a firearms industry
          trade group.

In June, background checks for firearms were up 136%, compared to a year earlier, according to the
trade group, which gives the best proxy for gun sales. Background checks in June for civilians seeking a license to carry were the highest since the FBI began conducting checks 20 years ago.

In fairness to the Journal, this is not the first article they have run on the subject. It's just the most recent.

Wish the gun manufacturers would take advantage and increase some production - especially among affordable shotguns, revolvers, and other easy to use entry level items for those masses to get and have.
