Don’t we only need two shells for the double barrel, one for the warning shot and the other just in case? I heard some old guy saying that a while ago.

So if everyone buys two shells each, there wouldn’t be a shortage, right?

Got some at Trader's in San Leandro over a decade ago, when it was still .30 per round. It was something $300 a case for 840 rounds.

I think the raw material for brass and bullets will benefit from the reduced competition for materials from other industries in a generally down economy.

But ammo industry will still be strained at production capacity.

Another pro is actual shooting consumption has decreased dramatically. So what we are seeing in demand is additional hoarding which will eventually have an upper limit it reaches.

The worst thing that could happen is a major war that will consume production demand at ever increasing levels.

Ammo is like toilet paper. People are mostly panic buying, which limits supply to average consumers.

Then again, we have lots of new gun owners interested in the sport. My last two trips to the range, there were lots more people there. Serious crowds of people. So many that it seemed weird.

It can't solve the issue of manufacturers not having primers, powder or bullets for sale because they're pouring every single component into loaded ammo, on which they make a lot more profit. We ran into the same thing during the Obama era ammo shortage.

When the tide goes out on raw materials, all the boats in the harbor settle the same... whether it's loaded ammo or components.

According to the article cited, that's the current situation.

The answer to this is stockpiling in good times to prepare for the lean times. Whether that's loaded ammo or components.

Loading from components saves you money only when you shoot up the ammo you have. Having 300 loaded rounds, you can take make a run for it, off for the hills toting your 300 rounds, and if it costs you 100 rounds shooting your way out, you still have 200 when you get where you're going. If you have 100 loaded rounds and components to reload them twice, you can get out of dodge but what then? And how much did that really save you?

I have seen more "this is from an industry insider" and "new normal" bull**** claims than I can count. **** happens, demand goes crazy, people get complacent, demand tapers off. It will continue like this until until guns and ammo are banned, which seems like an impossible task considering the sheer amount having been sold during these panics. I have been hoarding ammo since 1988. No sense of urgency here.

LOL, yeah, the endless tunnel with the uphill at the end.
Especially tough after already walking all day at the show.

A buddy and I probably bought too any bullets since we didn't have a cart.
We were given a big canvas sheet by one of the vendors.
We put the bullets on the sheet and rolled it up, then we each grabbed an end and started walking.
I think we stopped three times on the uphill, dang the bullets were so heavy.
Some pointed and laughed at us, others knew what we were doing and cheered us on.

                    I miss the Pomona show.

Same as the previous ammo shortages. Remember when the lead refinery or mine or whatever it was shut down and everyone freaked out?
