What is cost of firearms transfer after death of parent

    Hi,
I am asking for my wife's female cousin.

Her father passed away 5 years ago and 4 firearm were never transferred over to her name.

    2 shotguns
    2 pistols

On her own she went to an FFL in Los Angeles and was charged about $600 for the completion of the transfer over to her name.

I asked her what the FFL fees were to help her with this paper work and transfer.

She told me the FFL did not charge her any FFL fees and told her the $600 were only fees from the state.

    That sounds ridiculous.

It is ridiculous and the ffl lied to her. If she has possession of the firearms, she just needs to report to DOJ so it can put under her name. $19 total via the cfars website using the operation of law form for receivership of an estate.

          I concur.

Father to daughter inheritance takes 1 form, 1 $19 fee for all the guns listed on the form.

          See the form, https://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/a...rms/oplaw.pdf?

That is an outrageous rip off. Unethical as hell. And may even be criminal fraud.

That FFL needs to be publicly OUTED here on CG. So other citizens can avoid them.

Your wife's cousin has a case in small claims court for $600 against that FFL for fraud.

Not suspicious if it is exactly as described.

                    It is theft and fraud.

I believe if she was given the guns prior to 1990, there was no paperwork needed at all. Am I right?

Both CA residents? $19. No FFL needed. OPLAW form. Unless there was an estate, will, etc then it's a bit more messy but ni way is it $600 messy. Someone got robbed.

I saw that. But if he gave them to his offspring prior to 1990 was my point.
